So I wanted to come to the people who might know. Is this DVD worth it?

I actually have the very same DVD. If you don't have a copy, it is good and the video quality is not bad. It carries both American and Japanese versions of the film. Overall not bad but I never watched the Japanese version so I can't give you a defenant answer.

Yeah, that's a boot that has been around for a while. The official R3 release can be found on ebay for about seven bucks.

Yes, wait for it to pop up on eBay, in fact, this is the first time I haven't seen it available. One company usually has the complete Heisei series around the price range of seven or so dollars a piece.

Is it really a true bootleg, if the film isn't available in Region 1 and never have been. Regardless, I do own the SumoGorilla RoG dvd, the single disc that does not include G1985, and I can say it was definitely worth the money. The full movie in better video quality than the Region 3 release, which I feel is extremely lackluster in the video department for being overly tinted, too dark at times, and too faded at others. Also it comes with extra features: Behind the Scenes footage and trailers.

Of course it's "true bootleg". A bootleg is an unauthorized product, which is exactly what this is.

Alright I take it back, stupid statement. It was early in the morning, and I was worn out= not a ton of thought. I will still stand by my opinion of it's quality.

I've never seen the quality of the R3, but I've heard it's not exactly stellar quality. I'm sure this particular boot is sourced from the R2.

The R3 and the boot are both R2 ports.

Hmm..then what transfer does this "SumoGorilla" boot utilize, I wonder? Motorhead's assessment of the R3 doesn't exactly sound like the quality of the R2..

I'm just under the impression that most boots are sourced from the R2s.

Probably. That's probably the best home video source there is as far as DVDs go.

I'm not sure where the R3 was sourced, but I do know the SumoGorilla boot is sourced from the R2. The R3 for some reason was just in very crappy quality for some reason, then again it cost $7.00 so I wasn't expecting much with the R3.

That's what I figured as well..I wonder why the R3 (apparently) looks so much worse? *shrugs*

It sucks that none of the European releases of RETURN OF GODZILLA had the international audio handy..it would probably prove useful for your eventual restoration (Though then you'd still have to find a way to have the English credits in DVD quality).
