By the way, I'm working on the next image and it's looking pretty great but I'm also working on a bunch of other art that I intend to sell prints of at GFEST (nudge nudge) so that's why it's a bit slow. I'll hold off naming the kaiju in question until the actual reveal because I like being a dick like that but I will say that someone did say it. And I don't mean the guy who posted every Showa monster. He was disqualified.

Just came to me; how're you going to approach the Dorats? While I think they're completely absurd, they're a distinct part of the Heisei King Ghidorah character and I'd love to see someone give that concept a classier treatment (and less Toy-ish).

Working on the GODZILLA: VERSUS NEO project again, finally. Inking the secret Showa kaiju as I type this and hatching a some crazy plans... >8D

Sorry for the long wait. Aside from school and work and the art burnout I suffered after GFest, this piece also has MORE detail than Crystal Godzilla! D:

And GODZILLA VERSUS NEO's secret Showa Kaiju is KAMACURAS! What a tease for nothing', amirite? I wanted to add in Kamacuras because. Well. Because I wanted to add in Kamacuras and I happened to sketch a really neat design for him around the same time I was conceptualizing Crystal Godzilla. Where other redesigns (Final Wars, Godzilla Neo, etc.) have a tendency to want to take Kamacuras and emphasize the "giant praying mantis" aspect of the creature, I find this approach a little boring. Instead, I chose to take his more draconic aspects and push them even further, resulting in what is basically a more stylized version of the Son of Godzilla design. And that's really all I think is necessary in my mind.

You're going to find with several of the VERSUS NEO designs that I haven't changed a whole lot. I mean, some are pretty radical (wait until you see what I'm cooking up for flying form Destroyer!) but a lot of the others are just tweaks and subtle twists because the real focus of VERSUS NEO's redesigning is the storyline and the characters. More on that stuff later! ;D

In the VERSUS NEO setting, Kamacuras inhabits Birth Island, which Godzilla and Junior still reside on later in the story, along with another monster (or maybe even two!), making it sort of a Monster Island Lite. Kamacuras, for example, is prey for one of the other larger beasts in particular - I think you might be able to guess who.

So I have two possible images in mind for the next installment of VERSUS NEO and I can't quite decide which one to Sally Go with. So I'm gonna put it up to a vote!

Here are your choices:

• Flying Form Destroyer - I wasn't originally planning on redesigning Destroyer very heavily but then when I started thinking about how I might… well, the design I doodled in my sketchbook of his Flying Form yesterday is, in my opinion, pretty crazy awesome. Vote for this if you want to see why I think so!

• Miki Saegusa, Erika Shiragami, and Saori Inuoe - PEOPLE?! Yeah, people. I did say that VERSUS NEO is less about giving the monsters themselves massive overhauls and instead doing that for the characters and story, did I not? I did! So why these three? What relationship does everyone's favorite psychic Miki have with Erika, the doomed (OR IS SHE?!) daughter of Dr. Shiragami? And who is this Saori character you've never heard of? Vote for this to learn more!

So leave a comment with your preference between the two and I'll see where the opinion stands in a week's time when I'll make the selection final!

I always loved how he had 2 different graspers. Makes him incredibly unique.

Glad you guys are enjoying this series! Whichever the next one is, Destroyer or Miki and Co., I assure you I will work very hard to make it just as good or better!

And yeah, I do really like Kamacuras having two different kinds of arm appendages. Like I said, the more "praying mantis" interpretations are really boring to me because they take a lot of what makes Kamacuras so subtly cool away from him.
