Godzilla Having a Mate

i've recently been thinking of three possible ideas for how this can go down:

1: the obvius choice of Godzilla getting together with one of his own kin. there's a couple different designs for her going around my head, but almost every time i give her the name Raijin. i would prefer if this was the way it went. it just seems like the more logical choice for the topic.

2:Godzilla still gets together with a terrestrial monster, but it's not one of his own. think of Komodithrax and Zilla Junior for this one. it would be interesting if said monster was a rival to Godzilla's species (say if they decided to go with the Godzillasaurus origin again. she could be a rival that used to compete with Godzillasurus for food . she and Godzilla lived on the same island and got mutated along with him.) i know it sounds like the cliche of "loves concurs even the greatest of rivalries!" that you see in fiction but it would still be interesting. also the idea of their offspring, who could potentially come out very unique.

3:Going with Legend's option with Godzilla getting together with an alien. while it sound interesting, it just feels a bit to out there for me. though again, there offspring could certainly be something to see, depending on how his mother looks and all.

i mean, it kinda did work for Toho. Mothra got so popular with girls that Godzilla vs Mothra became the number 1 highest grossing film of the Heisei era of the franchise.

No kidding, Mothra is a huge sellar. I think it would be wise for Toho to give her another solo film, but one with the quality of the original. Other female monsters could work, probably moreso on the "good side" since every female besides Mothra has been an antagonist.

I always thought having more than one Godzilla cheapened what Godzilla is - a freak accident. A lonely creature not made for this world. Anytime they tried to introduce a child it has always (IMHO) failed. Minya was created to pander to kids. Godzilla Jr. was an attempt to broaden their shrinking adult audience. You may bring up Rodan but that creature was originally designed to have that story element in mind.

Here we go

Outside of questions of their...love life.

I feel that an interesting layer can be mined from their romance...specifically in regards to their similarities as characters.

In pretty much all incarnations...Godzilla and Kong are betrayed in a similar traumatic implied backstory.

Their families and species being wiped out by *insert cause here*

In many ways...Kong and Godzilla can represent two ways of handling grief.

One retreats inward(Godzilla)

And one is in a constant quest of seeking a found family(Kong)


Neither are successful...

Godzilla will always be king of the monsters and would constantly the help of others to deal with problems because he is a target with a big x on his forehead, mothra saving him from various threats. As the alpha...he is strangely the most vulnerable to being targeted and thus is often forced to seek help from his fellow monsters, a interesting contradiction.

While Kong’s relationships always end tragically(outliving his human friends or watching those human friends leave, or in the case of his other non-legendary movies is killed in front of the one he loves) and he lives in isolation when apes are actually social creatures...especially an ape as self-aware as Kong.

It also works because of their contradictions...Godzilla is a distant and hard monster to Kong’s soft gentle giant monster, Godzilla has moments of vulnerability to his friends(king of monsters) while Kong has moments of unimaginable violence to his enemies(pretty much all of his movies).

In many ways...it is possible for them to enter a mutual symbiotic relationship, romantic or platonic. Kong teaching Godzilla the value of companionship and Godzilla giving Kong a constant presence in his life that allows him to keep going.

Kong and Godzilla are kind of an awkward coin, a coin that shouldn’t make sense...but it does

Would it work as a romance? Only in the hands of a talented writer and filmmaker willing to risk his dignity and isn’t all there in the head.


Now...let us leave this spiral before it consumes us all. May god have mercy on the soul of the person who revived this thread.

Because the thread title isn't stupid enough we gotta ask the serious questions about how Godzilla would have another radiated nuclear girlfriend and how he would swoon her with chocolates and flowers.

So no, Godzilla is a one off kaiju in the Toho line, but in the hollyweird universe it's stated he has a species meaning they had sex laid eggs or live births and there were more than one so in that retrospect he did have mates.
