Why not?

People won't read it that's why not. The same thing with sticky topics nobody reads them.

I think it's a whole forum on it's own there's a more likely chance people will read them as opposed to sticky topics or whatever.

That sounds stupid as skreeonk.

Other then the fact that forum rules are mostly common sense, kane already hit the nail right on the head.

There is a more likely chance people will read an independent forum than a sticky topic. A slim chance but still a chance. I fail to see how that sounds "stupid as skreeonk" And besides, nobody obeys the rules here anyway. Probably more than half the posts on this forum are at least partial flamebait.

If anything, the first rule in a new members' guide is "skreeonk the rules"

Why is it that you make less and less sense with each post?

If, according to you, the members don't follow the rules anyway... why even devote an entire board to it?

That's stupid. That takes up space. It's tacky as hell, and no way to run a forum. It IS an ass-stupid idea. If there's a slim chance that people will read an independent forum, rather than a sticky topic, why bother with it?

Slim chance doesn't sound all that great.

I'm not saying to actually do it, Jesus. I'm just saying if hypothetically it was done it'd probably do a slim chance more than a sticky topic would. I'm not saying it's a good idea, just that it's not completely the same as it had been implied.

So... the two of you are simply playing devil's advocate for either side?

Face it, folks. People who don't read rules won't read them no matter where you put them. That, in my opinion, should be the end of it.

It would be- if there was even a minor indication that people would actually pay attention to it.

True, true. You could make it a requirement for them to have read the rules for them to post anything, like they were legit blocked from posting until they accessed the rules.

If any of you are interested in a new member's humble perspective on the matter, I have some suggestions that might help new people integrate into this site (or be removed from it, if needed) more smoothly, and generally help improve the place all-around.

1. No more 'vigilante justice'. I see way too many threads devolve into page after page of pointless bashing because of some member's mistake. If someone break the rules, they should be reported to the mods. The mods can then deal with them accordingly. There shouldn't usually be any need to derail a thread over this kind of thing. Just report the offender, then ignore whatever they said/did and move on with the relevent discussion.

2. If new members are expected to behave in a polite, positive manner, experienced members should lead by example. But plenty of the old hands around here don't do that. They tend to do a lot of the aforementioned bashing, unnessecary arguing, flaming anyone who has an opinion different from their own, etc. New people probably come in here and see that this kind of conduct is apparantly acceptable, and think they can do whatever they want. And who can blame them, really?

3. I suppose the main thing that should change is that the mods should run a tighter ship around here. Don't let things get out of hand so much, you know?

So, that's my take on this. I'm not trying to start anything, if anyone takes any of this the wrong way. My only intention here is to help out.

Look, you're missing the point. New people don't generally integrate into the site for one simple reason: they don't even bother to look at the rules.

Come up with all the suggestions you want, they'll just be ignored the way the rules we have now are.

Well, anybody that blatantly disregards the rules should be thrown out. I'm not saying otherwise.

Mainly what I'm trying to get across is that the general attitude of over-the-top hostility and negativity around here, combined with somewhat lax moderation, can't be helping anything. The other forums I frequent, Toonzone and Rebelscum, are more heavily moderated, with arguments, flaming, etc. being shot down right away. And it seems to work. Both places have hundreds of members, and threads regularly go on for dozens or even hundreds of pages without incident. This place, by comparison, is kind of a mess. Cleaning it up a little might help discourage a lot of the stupidity we get from new members.

This wont work because rules are selectively enforced.
