Yeah, I'm a little daunted by that, too... but the massive extent of the franchise can be a good thing, of course. If we end up liking it, we'll have a steady stream of kaiju material to last the rest of our lives.
Indeed, and like I said, having recently gone scorched earth on my collection, keeping only the absolute essentials that I'll re-watch until I die....I could probably use a new 'epic' to get involved with. I have almost zero interest in virtually everything coming out of Hollywood these days, on the TV or movie side of things....so finding some huge property of the past that I've never seen before, and just buying it and watching it as it is released could be a fun little endeavor for a few years.

I've never seen it before, so it would basically be 'new' to me....

Holy fucking shit. What a lineup.

Wild that I'm more excited for this than the Criterion box set.

The virgin Criterion vs. the chad Mill Creek, good lord.

I understand Orb and Geed are both pretty good; that's exciting.

The deadline is pretty close and we still haven't heard anything about English dubs but I'm hoping something was worked out where at least UM66 will have its dubbed audio. Q would be incredible but I'm not optimistic we'll ever hear that.

I'm honestly surprised, I wasn't expecting an Ultraseven release until late December/early January at best. I never thought it would be coming out the month after Ultra Q and Ultraman. Now I'm waiting for it to pop up on Amazon.

Pretty cool that they'll be releasing the old and new shows about the same time, and not just in chronological order.

The only thing that concerns me is the sheer speed at which they're pushing these out. Someone in one of the Discord servers I'm in mentioned the possibility of the subs suffering and/or being taken from fansubs, as has happened with Gridman and other shows on Toku.

Something else occurs to me as well -- I know Mill Creek wouldn't be the ones to do it, but do we know if TsuPro commissioned dubs for any of the newer shows?

Is the banned episode included on the Ultra Seven set? It's only a regional ban, self imposed by the studio. I believe TNT played it back in the day.

If Shout! didn't get it, I doubt Mill Creek will. The TNT airing might have been a situation like the Paramount VHS of PoN, where it's something inherited from whoever originally had the license before the self-imposed ban went into effect.

Well Shout didn’t get it because Chaiyo/UGM was limited to what was available on the R2 DVDs. The Turner version was made in 1985 (long before the show aired) so you could be right that it happened before the ban. The 1975 Hawaiian version also included the 12th episode, FWIW.

All that said, I wouldn’t anticipate it on this set.

Glad the Showa series are largely getting released in chronological order. I'm getting the whole Showa era for sure and most the early Heisei stuff. Really surprised how fast they're churning this stuff out. Practically a new release or more every month.

Added in 34 minutes 48 seconds:

The only thing about the Criterion set that really excites me is the Japanese version of King Kong vs Godzilla. Everything else I have in one form or another. Almost all this stuff is "new" to me.

Ahh, you're right -- I forgot the old DVDs were licensed from Chaiyo. But yeah, I see no reason to think that Tsuburaya's policy has changed.

If they continue with their pattern for Showa releases, probably by next Fall.

Nice! Hopefully the steel books continue after Ultraseven.

The Showa Godzilla films, Ultra Q, Ultraman and UltraSeven, all on Blu-ray.

Man, is it great to be a daikaiju fan, or what?

Wonder what the transfers will look like

EDIT: just remembered it’s the same distributor that did the other Ultraman release, so I’m assuming the same
