With a sweep of his tail, Anguirus lunged out of the rubble like a crocodile going for the kill, scattering the pile of metal, glass, and concrete. Debris of every shape and size pummeled Hedorah's, making a mess of the slimy being's body and shoving him straight on his backside. Throwing dust and rubble from himself with a quick shake, Anguirus snarled. He was not going down without raising hell first. Especially to this monstrosity. Making the heavens tremble with a long wail that shattered every intact window for miles, Anguirus, the beast with a spirit that refused to die, threw himself back into a battle with an alin being that could kill by mere contact.

Wheeling around on his haunches, Anguirus swung his spiny tail at Hedorah. Aiming for where the Smog Monster was still most blackened, the dinosaur hammered the polluted beast with his heavy tail. Burnt sludge crumbling away like a shell, the stunned horror collapsed, falling flat on his back with a wet hiss. Acting fast Anguirus whipped his tail all the way around, scrapping off any corrosive goo on the sidewalk before it could do much damage. With Hedorah temorarily useless, Anguirus went to work, relying on a skill he rarely showed-

Burrowing.

Prehistoric claws tore into the broken street, upturning asphat, dirt, and stones, carving out a shallow indention into the earth. Deeper and deeper the hole became, Anguirus steadily disappearing into it. The occasional water pipe got in the way, so the quadrupedal brawler simply shashed through them. By the time Hedorah regained his sensed and sat upright, his foes was gone, completely underground. The dealy beast rose with a managled string of croaking. Cautiously, the heap of living minerals marched over to the edge of the hole, peering down into its black depths. The foul creature was totally unaware that Anguirus was far beneath it, digging a pit that would soon collapse under its weight and send the alien being plunging a thousand feet below (to the Land of the Lo~ost!)...

The ground trembled and the street that Hedorah stood on began to crack along the edges. It only took him a second to realize that he had been hoodwinked by this pestilant dinosaur. A deafening whooshing sound rang out as the ground finally gave way, sending Hedorah into the deep and dark pit. This was nothing to panic over though. No, Anguiras had forgotten that Hedorah still could get out. The Smog Monster morphed into his flying form and sped back to the surface, dodging bits of metal and concrete along the way.

Anguiras had already emerged about a hundred meters away. He looked tired yet determined to not let the mineral monster beat him. Hedorah felt no sympathy for the dinosaur. He began his flight towards Anguiras, eyes glowing with what seemed like infinite power. Two Crimson Rays scorched Anguiras's snout, sending the ankylosaur flailing. Hedorah landed and grabbed him by the snout. With a single tug, he managed to throw him back into the pit! Hedorah watched in delight as his opponent fell further and further down. The Smig Monster's body changed yet again. This time he had the upper hand and he croaked with glee as victory seemed inevitable.

Anguirus was screwed. Plunging down into his own pit, the cartwheeling dinosaur's mind was working like lightning as he tried to think of something to do. As the bottom the the hole rushed up at him, time seemed to slow down. The roar of air in his ears dulled, and he became aware of the huge amount of adrenaline pumping through his veins. The thrashing of his limbs faded, his breathing became calmer, and his eyes focused.

Plummeting towards what could be his death, a single, brilliant, shining idea entered Anguirus's mind.

Curling himself into a ball, the ankylosaur tried to work himself into the perfect position, tail flailing. Just before the spiky beast smashed into the ground, his thick tail whipped out and smacked the ground. The blow sent spikes of pain up every spine that hit the ground, but the sudden motion redirected all the energy from the fall back up. Changing direction in an instant, Anguirus now soared upward, spinning like a crazed top from the ancient past.

Back on the surface, Hedorah still cackled in dark glee, clutching its oozing gut like a monstrous, vile Santa Claus. That laughter stopped dead when Anguirus rocketed from the hole he had just been thrown into like an avenging devil. A piercing whistling came from the reptile as his spines cut ragged circles in the sky. Making a steep arc down, Anguirus's curled form slammed into the top of Hedorah's head. The alien being toppled with a squawk, crown splashed across the street. Bouncing off the ground hard, Anguirus spun towards a skyscraper. With another lash of his tail, the beast changed his direction a second time, the building vaporizing into rubble behind him. As Hedorah struggled to its feet, body struggling to keep shape, Anguirus struck it again. The foul creature was thrown down, much of its semi-liquid body spattering out like a pack of ketchup someone stopped on.

Loosing velocity, Anguirus hit the ground a few more time before uncurling and landing on his feet. The Mesozoic brawler stumbled for a moment, senses jumbled, but quickly straightened himself out. Turning to inspect Hedorah, the beast couldn't help but grin inwardly. The first blow on the alien blob hadn't been on purpose.

The second had.

Wailing a triumphant cry, Anguirus wheeled around and bat a large chunk of stone from his burrow into the air, sending it towards the black mess that was Hedorah...

The boulder clobbered Hedorah on the head, sinking into his body. It only took mere seconds for his head to regain its originally shape. The boulder had hurt though. Anguiras pawed at the street anxiously, awaiting his foe's next move. Hedorah leaped into the air and landed on his feet right in Anguiras's bloody face. Instantly the Smog Monster uppercut the monster, sending him flailing into a heap of rubble. Then he fired twin Crimson Rays from his eyes, each searing the poor ankylosaur's underside. The polluted fiend lifted his arms in celebration and gave a victory cry. He knew it wasn't over just yet, but he could see the tide swaying his way. Hedorah jumped again, this time intent on landing on Anguiras...

Instead of trying to dodge the acidic body slam, Anguirus leaped up to meet it. He was tired of playing around! He didn't care how much it hurt him, he was taking this damned thing down! Slamming into Hedorah in midair, the dinosaur speared the heap of living minerals on his spiny carapace. The Smog Monster's corrosive body immediately started to eat away at the ankylosaur's spikes and shell. Throwing his whole mass forward with a flick of his tail, Anguirus flipped both himself and Hedorah upside down. Then, with a fierce wail and a horrified shrieked, they plummeted.

BOOM!

With the combined weight of two giants coming down, the impact was enormous. And Hedorah took most of it. The vile creature was a mess, spread across the street like a dropped scoop of ice cream. And he was still stuck to Anguirus's spines. The sheer toughness of his carapace was beginning to fight back the Smog Monster's deadly effects, the loud sizzling and sharp burning smell in the air lessening. Although Anguirus was now missing many of his prized spikes, he now had the upper hand. And he intended to use it. With a loud wail, Anguirus threw himself sideways, using his tail to spin himself around. Continuing to push his weight to the side, the Mesozoic brawler began rolling down the street, Hedorah being further splattered as he did. After a few moments, much of the Smog Monster was spread across several blocks.

Snorting happily, Anguirus raised up his spiny tail, planning to smack it into the ground, flip himself over again, and crush Hedorah even more.

(Just a heads-up, I'm going to be off for a week because of vacation. This will be my last until I get back.)

The puddles of what was Hedorah oozed into the shadows of the night, narrowly avoiding the ankylosaur's attack. Anguiras perked up as he looked about, trying to find the Smog Monster. It didn't help that he was the same color as most of the buildings around them! Without warning, black streams of acid sprang from both sides of Anguiras. For a moment, the full moon was hidden from the dino's eyes. Hedorah reformed over the head of his stunned opponent. Then, the polluted monster brought his arms up and smacked Anguiras square on the top of the head, sending him straight to the ground. Anguiras cried out, but was silenced by a Crimson Ray blast from his foe's bloodshot eyes. Hedorah splashed onto the street and grabbed Anguiras by the throat, about to thrust him into a ruined building...

Gurgling in agony, soft flesh burning away, Anguirus managed to wheel around, taking Hedorah with him. With an angry wail, the dinosaur smashed the Smog Monster into the building. Glass shattered, concrete crumbled, and metal twisted as the alien being toppled into the skyscraper, drippy arms flailing. With a distressed string of croaking, the sludge beast was engulfed by falling debris. Stumbling back, Anguirus clutched at his throat. After an instant of war, blood and raw flesh tickling his paw, he ripped his claws back with a loud hiss. Growling hoarsely, a dangerous light entered the ancient creature's narrowed eyes.

Hedorah would pay.

Rearing up with a ragged cry, Anguirus brought his trunk-like forelegs down into the rubble of the building Hedorah was buried in. The debris practically exploded under the force, chunk of concrete and shards of glass flying everywhere. Oozing out from within that rubble, diced bits of Hedorah groaned painfully, each stringy piece taking on a life of its own. Snarling at the still living remains of his hated foe, Anguirus lashed out. His long, spiny tail whipped to the side, swiping through the base of a nearby building. It's roots severely damaged, the towering structure moaned, wavering. Then, it gave way, plunging down towards the corpse of its companion and the reforming Hedorah...

Hedorah reformed just in time to see the skyscraper slam him square in the head, smashing him like a overripened tomato. Anguiras lifted his head and cry genially. He thought this was the start of some comeback! Hedorah's remains slid out from the flaming rubble and reconstitiuted. His eyes were weary, but he knew his foe had the same feeling. He must...no one could possibly ever take so much damage and still put up a fight. Hedorah lurched forward and fired a duel Crimson Ray at the ankylosaur's face. Then he fired two sludge balls at him, each hissing with delight as they ate away Anguiras's bloodied skin. Then, with malicious intent, Hedorah grabbed a handful of rubble. He walked over to the dinosaur, who was flailing around maniacally, and held him by the throat as he prepared to force-feed him the rubble of Tokyo.

Anguirus snarled in indignation as the rubble was shoved down his throat. Not only did the jagged debris shred the interior of his mouth, but Hedorah's acidic mitts were eating into his skin. Tail lashing in pain, the dinosaur let out a muffled howl. Overjoyed by the prehistoric beast's cries of pain and humiliation, Hedorah cackled his croaking laugh, oblong eyes glowing blood red. Anguirus's eyes blazed with fury. This thing could beat him... this thing could burn him... this thing could snuff his life out and eat him down to the bone... but vile, foul, alien thing could not laugh at him! With a bellow of rage not heard since the Mesozoic, Anguirus ripped free of Hedorah's grip, his mighty thrashing seeming to shake the while planet. Eyes like two spotlights of pure, raw anger, Anguirus threw his head forward and spat up the rubble force-fed to him like a kaiju-sized shotgun! With a mangled screech, the Smog Monster's head exploded. Stumbled about in a blind daze, Hedorah tried to pull himself together, literally gathering up the stringy pieces of his head in his clumsy grasps.

Trotting away from the distress pollution giant, Anguirus snorted fiercely, fangs flashing. Stopping a few hundred meters away, the great reptile whipped around, lowering his head and scratching at the ground like a primal bull. With a wail that probably disturbed Godzilla all the way back on Monster Island, the ankylosaur charged!

Barreling towards Hedorah like a runaway train, Anguirus narrowed his eyes, making a quick judgement. Just before he slammed into the toxic tower of sludge, he leaped! Flipping up in the air like a springing child's toy, the ancient brawler made a full somersault, legs tucking in and body curling. Hedorah's eyes took shape just in time to see Anguirus's tail tip disappear. The polluted being gurgled in confusion for a second before a tremendous force hammered him from behind. Anguirus had slugged the Smog Monster square in the back with his spiny tail, his full-body spin bring the heavy appendage around like a medieval mace. Bowled over, Hedorah tumbled forward wildly, actually starting to take on a spherical shape as he rolled.

Rearing up for a quick war cry, Anguirus chased after the deadly creature, removing the corrosive muck from his tail with a sharp flick. As he galloped towards Hedorah, he wonder vaguely how long it would take all his spikes to grow back. Dipping his crocodile jaws down, the monstrous scraper tore up the street with his rhinoceros horn. Carried up and away by his momentum, some rubble skittered ahead of him, balanced on his nasal horn. More and more was picked up, pushed together by his speed and girth. Soon a large, roughly ball-like mass of debris formed. As it grew bigger and bigger, Hedorah grew closer and closer. As the gathering of rubble achieved a size about that of his own head, he let it go, grinding to a stop. As Hedorah came to his own stop, the ball of debris roared towards him like a bizarre game of bowling...

The ball collided with Hedorah, sending him flailing into a ruined building. His chest had been blown open from the impact and his innards were laid out all around him. His eyes closed for a second as his body tried to recuperate. He noticed that his skin was drying out. It wouldn't be much longer before he was done for. The Msog Monster gurgled and got up slowly, watching Anguiras with caution. Who knew this ankylosaur would be so much of a hassle? Hedorah quivered before glowing bright red. He took to the skies and prepared for one final assault.

Anguiras watched as the polluted monster grew closer. In a matter of seconds, he was bombarded by a rain of acidic sludge. Before he could react, Hedorah dove out of the sky and dove head-first into his foe. An explosion of rubble and dirt rose up the fighters. When it finally cleared, Hedorah was pummeling Anguiras with his fists, hoping to beat him to death...

Pained wails rang across the decimated cityscape. Anguirus thrashed in distress as he was pummeled mercilessly by corrosive fists, Hedorah cackling madly all the while. The dinosaur was in trouble. Between the great power of the blows and the acidic sludge eating away at his flesh, he wasn't going to last much longer like this. In fact, he didn't really have much energy at all. So this was it. Now or never! Anguirus lashed out with all his remaining might, and Hedorah went flying, dripping limbs flailing. Screaming, the living tower of minerals crashed into an apartment complex. Although half the human structure collapsed and all its windows shattered, the sturdy building stayed standing, acting as a rest for the slumped Hedorah.

Anguirus, meanwhile, was frantically pawing at the ground. Being rather dried out, the toxic gunk that made of the foul being's body wasn't quite as potent as before, but Anguirus still had to rub his flesh raw to get rid of it. Snarling in pain and annoyance, the prehistoric beast glared daggers at Hedorah, who was struggling to stand up. A harsh glint suddenly caught the great reptile's eyes. Sticking up from the remains of a thoroughly leveled building, a long length of steel was gleaming in the sunlight, its tip sharp and jagged. Eyes narrowing as an idea formed into head, Anguirus trotted over to the metal beam. Grabbing it in his crocodile jaws, the ankylosaur wheeled around to face his polluted foe. Charging, he let loose his unmistakable war cry. Hedorah looked up in alarm as he was rushed by the spiny giant, beam jutting from his jaws like a spear. The Smog Monster gurgled miserably as the twisted length of steel pierced his gut, his deadly goo gushing out from around it. The metal was quickly dissolved by his still moist interior, never even getting close to breaching the monstrosity's back, but it did something for Anguirus to work with. Thrusting forward with all his weight, the dinosaur shoved Hedorah into the remains of the building he had damaged. The already injured structure collapsed around the alien thing with a dying groan, burying Hedorah completely.

Feeling the weariness that threatening to consume his body increase, Anguirus lurched towards the rubble, stumbling weakly. Placing his claws in the building's corpse, he began to dig, hoping to scatter both the debris and Hedorah in one last desperate effort to win...

Gorosaurus watched the two kaiju brawl violently. It was a gruesome sight seeing Anguirus injured in such way. Yet he looked at Hedorah, in the equal amount of pain.

Gorosaurus had a feeling that one of the two brawlers are near death... The kangaroo like Carnosaur turned at Anguirus, signifying his victory.

Bits of rubble and black goo are spread all across several blocks as Anguirus burrows into the pile of debris. Hedorah's pained gurgling came from all around the digging dinosaur, as if each and every piece of the alien's body was crying out. Although the vile being's toxic innards ate away at his flesh and bone, Anguirus kept digging until his paws were raw and bleeding. By the time the great reptile had completely demolished the heap of rubble, the terrible screaming had stopped. Breathing heavily, the ancient beast looked around, waiting for Hedorah to reform and finish him. He had nothing left. Nothing happen. Hedorah didn't reappear or change forms, and Death seemed to be keeping his distance. Anguirus gaped, tongue lolling out like a massive pink snake. He'd won. Against all odds, he'd actually beat the Smog Monster. Rearing to his hind legs, the spiny giant gave a howl of victory.

And then he collapsed.

Anguirus was asleep before he even hit the ground, his snores rumbling across the city like thunderclaps. But they were soon eclipsed by even louder footsteps. Appearing on the scene with an alarmed expression, Godzilla, King of the monsters himself surveyed the devastated city. He recognized two thing instantly: the sleeping form of his best friend, and the acidic reek of Hedorah, a beast that he had once fought. He'd almost lost his life in that battle. And all the evidence showed that his companion Anguirus must have defeated the polluted beast, or another of its kind. Godzilla grumbled. Incredible, such a basic beast vanquishing the feared and deadly Hedorah. No wonder the quadruped was out cold. Although he admired his second-in-command greatly, even he would have doubted such a thing. The Monster King loosed a soft, affectionate cry. Stretching down to gather up the sleeping Anguirus, Godzilla would smile gently if his facial muscles would allow it.

It appeared that tenacity and determination could triumph over all.
