Re: The Godzilla: King of the Monsters Box Office Thread - Predictions, Tracking, etc
So it seems as though a reasonable prediction for Aladdin would be at 60-65 million OW (only 3-day). That honestly seems a bit disappointing especially after many people prior to this have said 100 million OW is possible. This movie will definitely NOT be a Beauty and Beast or Jungle Book.
The audience score seems pretty good, so I think it will have a tadbit better legs than I was expecting, but the terrible marketing will make this film have an underwhelming performance. I think we can safely say Aladdin will be a minor bump for Godzilla rather than a large one.

I can counter pretty much all of those, including your most major issue, if you want, because you seem to have really, really misunderstood or flat-out mischaracterized a number of elements. I don’t know how you did it, but you did. I think you should be pleasantly surprised.Kaiju-King42 wrote:Spoiler:

I'm honestly baffled as to how someone can flat out misunderstand a plot like that. I mean, even the vague leaks were written pretty clearly. The sheer lack of basic reading comprehension is strong with this oneG2000 wrote:I can counter pretty much all of those, including your most major issue, if you want, because you seem to have really, really misunderstood or flat-out mischaracterized a number of elements. I don’t know if either your reading skills are just awful or you stumbled across some bad fanfic but that’s not at all what the leaks stated lmaoKaiju-King42 wrote:rant

I'm seeing sites like Screenrant say Aladdin will be "another Disney hit" at $70-$75Mill, but they also think every Disney remake is a welcome addition, so I don't think they have much credibility. Tbh I dislike every writer on that site lol, they seem so out of touch with geek fandoms, except for the Pitch Meetings guy.Hokmuto wrote:So it seems as though a reasonable prediction for Aladdin would be at 60-65 million OW (only 3-day). We get our final tracking forecast today. I hope it bumps up to $60-70 million. I believe KOTM will have good word of mouth so hopefully that translates to a $70-80 million opening weekend.

Apparently Dark Phoenix pre-sales are very poor in China so that's good news for us
Also the pre-sales for the limited preview screenings in China on May 25th for Godzilla are considerably higher than they are for the actual opening day.

What? But it was hyping up to be like the biggest summer movie there next to KOTM.GFan327 wrote:Apparently Dark Phoenix pre-sales are very poor in China so that's good news for us

Aladdin did decent business last night, grossing 7 million, so this is not going to be a flop.

I doubt it'll flop, but I don't think it's going to be the billion dollar behemoth people thought.Gyaos wrote:Aladdin did decent business last night, grossing 7 million, so this is not going to be a flop.

Re: The Godzilla: King of the Monsters Box Office Thread - Predictions, Tracking, etc
I'm seeing Aladdin with my family next Saturday because...yeah I got outvoted.
We planned a family movie day and I wanted to see Godzilla, but they shot me down because A) No one else in the family likes monster movies and B) I will have already seen it twice anyway (okay that second point is fair, lol).
I just can't wait to see this dumpster fire and tell them "We could have seen Godzilla. Shame on you", lol.

Do the limited preview screenings contribute to the BO or are they free?GFan327 wrote:Apparently Dark Phoenix pre-sales are very poor in China so that's good news for us

Even if they're free for the audience, it's probably not ACTUALLY free. I imagine the theater is covering the ticket costs for the "free" preview showings.Hokmuto wrote:Do the limited preview screenings contribute to the BO or are they free?GFan327 wrote:Apparently Dark Phoenix pre-sales are very poor in China so that's good news for us

They’re paid for. There’s actual tracking for the film that day

An honest Aladdin comment that doesn’t follow the “it follows the animated film exactly aside from a couple twists” which is to me is, I’m paying for a copy....
“You know I wanted to like this but it was word for word even sound for sound like the old one at times and I didn’t like that at all. Just trying to ride on it’s past success. The best parts of the movie to me was where they did something different. It felt very uncreative. Wished Disney fanatics wouldn’t just cheer and clap for everything with the Disney name on it. Talk about brainwash.”
Then again Godzilla fandom might be accused of the same thing. At least though this is a new story. Can’t wait. Tic toc

Re: The Godzilla: King of the Monsters Box Office Thread - Predictions, Tracking, etc
While we can (and have) been accused of it, at least the Godzilla series has for the most part prided itself in trying to do something new or different each time even when using the same characters. Like, yeah, this isn't the first time they've done a Godzilla vs Ghidorah movie, but each take on that plot has been wildly different each time. KOTM is probably closest to GTTHM in concept, yet the stories are nothing alike outside of the monster lineup.MrRockett wrote:An honest Aladdin comment that doesn’t follow the “it follows the animated film exactly aside from a couple twists” which is to me is, I’m paying for a copy....

Box Office Pro has posted their latest tracking...no changes for GKOTM. Still $54 million OW and $144 million domestic total.
The number of estimated theaters did go up from 3,900 to 4,100. So that's good.
Rocketman's projections went down slightly.
