So it seems as though a reasonable prediction for Aladdin would be at 60-65 million OW (only 3-day). That honestly seems a bit disappointing especially after many people prior to this have said 100 million OW is possible. This movie will definitely NOT be a Beauty and Beast or Jungle Book.

The audience score seems pretty good, so I think it will have a tadbit better legs than I was expecting, but the terrible marketing will make this film have an underwhelming performance. I think we can safely say Aladdin will be a minor bump for Godzilla rather than a large one.

– The first, and perhaps the biggest issue for me in the leaks, was the movie turning Serizawa – the guy named after the character who has to live with the horror of accidentally developing a super weapon and, after finally being persuaded to use it just once in an emergency, kills himself to prevent it from ever being used again – into a super-weapon-happy maniac setting off nuclear bombs and oxygen destroyers without care or hesitation to save the world. If it plays out in the movie as it did here in the leaks, it'll be a real slap in the face given what the franchise is supposed to be about. It's as bad as Dimension Tide in Godzilla vs Megaguirus, made worse by the fact that this guy is actually named Serizawa. If it plays out this way in the film as it did with the leaks, without any hesitation from the characters or exploring the potential consequences, it'll be more disrespectful to the series than anything G98 ever did.

Major one out of the way, let's move onto the much less important, but still pretty disappointing or flat out *weird* parts I remember from the leaks.

– The story itself plays out like a bad fanfic. The human characters stay in the Orca for the vast bulk of the movie's runtime, traveling from place to place to watch the fights. No drama with them whatsoever, they just stay in the damn ship talking with each other and commenting on the monsters the entire time. Random references to the series are haphazardly introduced as plot points, like oxygen destroyers, without any sense of build up, nor are they every brought up again. The leaks, based off my memory of them, were just a series of "stuff happening" without any rhyme or reason.
– The movie seems to be slightly mysogynistic, as the main female lead is given the moniker of "The Bitch" the entire movie. Sure, she's an antagonist, but it's still eyebrow raising. Especially for what I think is a PG-13 movie.
– Rodan is treated pretty terribly. He's introduced as "the bitch of the other monsters" and spends the whole movie either getting his ass beat so bad that it's describes that the other three monsters are "making him their bitch" or teaming up with fucking Ghidorah of all things. He basically has Gigan's role for reasons I can't comprehend: a non-threatening, comic relief cowardly sidekick to the villain. Considering how many people are still expecting a GTTHM remake, or even just people who are excited to see Rodan back in all his glory, they're going to be pretty disappointed.
– Godzilla kills Ghidorah by unhinging his jaw like Orga and swallowing him whole. Fucking wHAT? It's "justified" because Ghidorah can regenerate his heads or something.
– The INFAMOUS "Kaiju Bowing" scene. For those not in the know, the movie takes a sharp turn at the end and starts trying to be The Lion King.
I can counter pretty much all of those, including your most major issue, if you want, because you seem to have really, really misunderstood or flat-out mischaracterized a number of elements. I don’t know how you did it, but you did. I think you should be pleasantly surprised.
Spoiler:
1. For one, this version of Serizawa does not set off the Oxygen Destroyer. The US military does it in an ill-advised attempt to try and kill both Godzilla and Ghidorah; Serizawa begs them to stop, but they do it anyway and the effects are catastrophic; the Gulf of Mexico is poisoned, Godzilla is nearly killed, and Ghidorah (being an alien) is unharmed. The ecological effects of the OD strike are later revisited.

The decision to set off a nuke to save Godzilla is not one taken lightly by anyone, least of all Serizawa. Godzilla is pretty much the only thing that can stop Ghidorah, who by this point is pretty much controlling all the other Titans (except for Godzilla and Mothra) to destroy the world. Millions are dying, and if one isolated nuke will save the survivors that’s a chance MONARCH is willing to take. Unfortunately a collision damages the submarine’s launch mechanism; if they want to revive Godzilla in time someone must sacrifice himself, as the radiation pocket where Godzilla sleeps, while too weak to revive Godzilla in time, is still strong enough to kill a human. Serizawa volunteers; he is an old man and has the least to live for, and despite pleas for him not to go he accepts the burden anyway. In a very emotional scene, he dons a dive suit and walks the nuke to Godzilla’s resting place. He strokes the beast’s nose, and bids his old friend a tearful goodbye as the nuke goes off

Serizawa isn’t a trigger-happy maniac. He does everything in his power to avoid the usage of WMDs, but he is ignored and humanity suffers as a result. When events force his hand, he nobly sacrifices himself to save the lives of billions of people.

2. You should be decently suprised in this regard. They don’t just go place to place and “watch the fights and talk,” they’re trying to hunt the ecoterrorists, retrieve the ORCA, and save the main character’s daughter. There is a decent amount of tension from what I understand from threats both big and small, and they disembark the Argo numerous times (and even in the Argo they’re not safe from the monsters). They have to deal with gun battles with terrorists, getting chased by Rodan and Ghidorah in the Argo, trying not to get squished during the final battle as they try to rescue MBB and retrieve the ORCA, etc.

3. That was literally just that one anon calling her a bitch lol. He forgot her name and just called her what he thought of her.

4. Again, that one anon using hyperbole to illustrate a point. Rodan performs nobly all things considered. He utterly wrecks Mexico and takes down fighters left and right during his initial rampage, and attacks Ghidorah head-on (although he is quickly defeated). He’s not quite “made a bitch” as much as Ghidorah (being an “Alpha”) effectively controls him alongside the other monsters. In his battle with Mothra, Mothra only barely wins; Rodan has the upper hand for most of the fight and very nearly kills her before she stings him. In absolutely no way is he “comic relief” or a “sidekick;” he’s a formidable threat in his own regard. And “cowardly” is perhaps the biggest mischaracterization here; if anything he’s too brave, as in their initial encounter he attacks Ghidorah with pretty much no hesitation, and fights valiantly throughout the rest of the film.

5. This is just utterly wrong, and either you have a reading comprehension problem or you were misled by some sort of shitpost. What actually happens is this:
Godzilla and Ghidorah fight; they are almost evenly matched, but ultimately Ghidorah overpowers and knocks out Godzilla after dropping him from the upper atmosphere. Ghidorah moves in for the kill, but is stopped by Mothra, despite the latter being heavily wounded. Mothra lunges at Ghidorah but he incinerates her with his gravity beams. Ghidorah is then distracted by the human cast; Vera Farmiga, having seen the error of her ways, is using the ORCA to distract Ghidorah in an effort to 1) buy time for Godzilla to recover and 2) allow her ex-husband, her daughter, and her former MONARCH compatriots time to get the hell out of Boston. Vera dies, but her sacrifice allows time for Godzilla to absorb the energy from Mothra’s ashes (in a scene reminescent of how Rodan sacrificed his life for Godzilla in GvMGII in 1993). Godzilla goes into burning mode, and begins unleashing nuclear pulses that burn and melt Ghidorah away; first melting his wings, then two of his heads, before finally unleashing a final nuclear pulse that incinerates Ghidorah’s body and levels most of Boston. When the mushroom cloud clears, a still-living Ghidorah head emerges from the smoke; it is quickly revealed that Godzilla is holding it in his jaws. While the head tries to escape, Godzilla incinerates it with his nuclear breath; according to some viewers he then swallows whatever burnt chunks of flesh are left. No weird Orga vore stuff here.

6. The “kaiju bowing” scene is there, yes. However, according to viewers it has a tone far, far removed from the “Lion King” type ending you are envisioning. A number of kaiju, including a surviving Rodan, converge in Boston; they appear as if they are going to fight Godzilla, but Godzilla snarls menacingly, cowing them all into submission. That’s ultimately what it is; a bunch of animals being scared into submission by their rightful Alpha rather than an over-anthromorphized bowing scene. There’s also a hint of menace for humanity as well; it’s pretty much made clear from the closing dialogue that mankind is desperately hoping that Godzilla remains “on our side,” because should we one day incur his wrath he would easily annihilate us and we would be powerless to stop him.
So if you’re willing to read all that I think your fears should be assuaged; if not then you should be happily suprised when you see it in theaters.

The entire soundtrack is already out, too, if you’re willing to listen: https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLU ... Se-VZxKUhS

I'm honestly baffled as to how someone can flat out misunderstand a plot like that. I mean, even the vague leaks were written pretty clearly. The sheer lack of basic reading comprehension is strong with this one

I'm seeing sites like Screenrant say Aladdin will be "another Disney hit" at $70-$75Mill, but they also think every Disney remake is a welcome addition, so I don't think they have much credibility. Tbh I dislike every writer on that site lol, they seem so out of touch with geek fandoms, except for the Pitch Meetings guy.

We get our final tracking forecast today. I hope it bumps up to $60-70 million. I believe KOTM will have good word of mouth so hopefully that translates to a $70-80 million opening weekend.

Apparently Dark Phoenix pre-sales are very poor in China so that's good news for us

Also the pre-sales for the limited preview screenings in China on May 25th for Godzilla are considerably higher than they are for the actual opening day.

I'm seeing Aladdin with my family next Saturday because...yeah I got outvoted.

We planned a family movie day and I wanted to see Godzilla, but they shot me down because A) No one else in the family likes monster movies and B) I will have already seen it twice anyway (okay that second point is fair, lol).

I just can't wait to see this dumpster fire and tell them "We could have seen Godzilla. Shame on you", lol.

Even if they're free for the audience, it's probably not ACTUALLY free. I imagine the theater is covering the ticket costs for the "free" preview showings.

An honest Aladdin comment that doesn’t follow the “it follows the animated film exactly aside from a couple twists” which is to me is, I’m paying for a copy....

“You know I wanted to like this but it was word for word even sound for sound like the old one at times and I didn’t like that at all. Just trying to ride on it’s past success. The best parts of the movie to me was where they did something different. It felt very uncreative. Wished Disney fanatics wouldn’t just cheer and clap for everything with the Disney name on it. Talk about brainwash.”

Then again Godzilla fandom might be accused of the same thing. At least though this is a new story. Can’t wait. Tic toc

While we can (and have) been accused of it, at least the Godzilla series has for the most part prided itself in trying to do something new or different each time even when using the same characters. Like, yeah, this isn't the first time they've done a Godzilla vs Ghidorah movie, but each take on that plot has been wildly different each time. KOTM is probably closest to GTTHM in concept, yet the stories are nothing alike outside of the monster lineup.

Box Office Pro has posted their latest tracking...no changes for GKOTM. Still $54 million OW and $144 million domestic total.

The number of estimated theaters did go up from 3,900 to 4,100. So that's good.

Rocketman's projections went down slightly.
