My preference for the beam's other properties would depend on what type of movie this will be. If it's a one-shot, G-vs-military movie, then definitely amp up the beam's power. I want to see city blocks being vaporized and tank divisions being incinerated with every shot.

But if Godzilla will be facing (an)other monster(s), then I'd like to see a somewhat weaker beam, more along the lines of the Showa versions. It should be more heat than force, and actually set building and enemies on fire. A stronger beam like most in the Millenium series may be 'cooler', but it also limits the kind of enemy monsters that can realistically stand up to Godzilla. Guys like Anguirus or Rodan can't really put up an entertaining fight if G can just blow them into the next county whenever he wants to.

Anguirus is covered in armour, I think its reasonable for him to take more than a few shots. Along the way develop visible damage, until he can take no more.

And Rodan is agile and fast he can dodge and out maneuver his breath. Also his armour plated chest could be a bit resistant and he could try to cover up like Gihdorah did in '91. Only to have a hole blasted through it after another dose.

I'm in favour of the GMK breath. Powerful and not linear but curvy like water being shot out of a hose. Because its kinda silly to assume Godzilla would have pin point accuracy. So why give him a pin point straight shot atomic breath. Much like the scene in GMK wear he drags his atomic breath across the streets annihilating all the military units in its path.

In the showa series you see the currled atomic breath all the time. I assumed this was because they didn't match of the angle of the mouth with the pyrotechnics going off.

I think that'd be the perfect 'Oh Crap' moment for the film, honestly, have Godzilla spammin' his ray on the military forces, uses it to dispatch the nuisance monster (like Baragon) with ease, then the main enemy monster (like Anguirus, Rodan, or the criminally overused Ghidorah) comes along, Godzilla shoots, ray makes contact... And the enemy monster isn't phased one bit, cue collective brown note for the military forces and a brawl not seen since the Mesozoic.
