Honestly...as much as I'd love to see some selected "Classic/Legacy" kaiju return...
(Hedorah, Anguirus, Varan, Baragon)...I would rather see new kaiju be created &
become part of the overall Godzilla/Kaiju/Toho legacy.

I mean as much as I understand how popular Ghidorah, Mothra, Rodan & MechaGodzilla
are...I'm kind of sick of them being the "Go To" opponents for Godzilla.

Give someone else/new a turn!

Yeah, cause god knows how well the MUTO were received.

Am I the only kaiju fan who actually really likes the M.U.T.Os?

Not at all. I quite like them and I'm eager to see them pop up elsewhere. Fingers crossed.

I thought the MUTOs were actually quite well executed. I wouldn't rank them up among Godzilla's best foes/co-stars, but they served the film they were in quite well.

The biggest drawback I guess is the not-as-original design as it seemed cut from the same cloth as Cloverfield and other recent American creature features, but for what they brought to the story and how good they were as antagonists in the film, I'd say I quite enjoyed them.

I'll be honest, I still don't see the Cloverfield similarities outside of the basic body plan.

But if we're going to go that rout, then every single giant bipedal reptilian monster, from Gamera to Titanosaurus to Baragon is by nature an unoriginal design due to sharing the same body plan as Godzilla.

Well...that's a fair call...

I jokingly referred to the M.U.T.Os as "Battra Gyaos & the Cloverfield Mantis"
when I wrote my full length film review 5 years ago.

I would rather see more Toho favorites than new monsters, honestly.

I'm actually conflicted. Part of me wants to see more Toho monsters in big budget American films, but at the same time I think all the new monsters in the MV so far have been really creative and fun to watch. So fuck it, they should do both. :huge:

Yeah, I guess being partly grey and having longer legs in front but even Clover's body plan is so oddly shaped that I just don't see any substantial similarities.

I'm with you! I want to see more original Toho kaijus redesigned, I also want to be surprised with new kaijus and I hope the Monsterverse triufe and it does not end in 2020.

I'd say just continue to use both simultaneously, have the main star monsters be the "name brand" ones, and the newly introduced Kaiju could either kill one of the known monsters to prove it's worthy of a Big G villain or just continue to use them as secondary monsters or even fodder lol.

I don't want too many Toho Kaiju in the MonsterVerse. Anguirus, Varan, Baragon, Manda, Gorosaurus, Biollante, and MAYBE Mechagodzilla. Aside from those, I want more new kaiju.

If Dougherty gets to direct, I'd be fine with his pick of Gigan and Biollante. That's a pair we've never seen. Istill remember how excited I was for Tokyo SOS having both Mothra and Mechagodzilla.

Why not both?

The way I want the MonsterVerse to have monsters if it continues is a combination of Toho monsters, public domain monsters, Warner Bros. monsters and original monsters. It'd bring in variety.

Especially since one thing I'd like to see is the MonsterVerse eventually moving away from the realism overtime and starts to do more alien and mystical elements though still at the same time retaining that realism like say aliens featured could be like those from Arrival rather then humanoids.

I mean the MUTO and Skull Crawlers are about as forgettable as they come.
And this is an unbiased opinion because I like both, but they don’t stand out like the Toho kaiju do.

Yeah, Godzilla wins... sometimes. I mean, he was killed by Dr. Serizawa's patented bubble-bath formula, heartburn, missiles, and poor box office returns, got his ass kicked by a drunken, circus-escaped gorilla, then he was beaten by two newborn worms, yeah some “king”.

So...wait...you like both the M.U.T.Os & the Skull Crawlers...
but you think they are forgettable?

I...I'm confused by this statement.

Surely you can't find something likeable & forgettable...

That's an oxymoron isn't it?

Me personally...I really like both Mr. & Mrs M.U.T.O & the Skull Crawler gang
& I'm pretty sure they increased my enjoyment of both G14 & K:SI immensely.

I mean, I didn’t flat out hate them so yeah, they were tolerable, they just weren’t memorable.

I just don't want any cyrptids or old WB monsters, they're just so dull.

What? No love for The Black Scorpion?

I think he & his kin had a cameo in the KotM trailer...

;)

(FYI: This is just speculation on my part)

I don't know...

It just seems like a confusing statement to me Pitch.

Its probably because I'm Australian.

Don't fret about it.
