That was my impression, at least - although that came from a very Western perspective of the fanbase at the time, so I might have misinterpreting things.Grievous wrote: Reflective?

I’m actually pretty pumped to watch this again on Netflix. I watched the sub before, so maybe this time I’ll try the dub.

Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion
It's been a while, so my memory is probably fuzzy, but it was my impression that fans - at least here in the States - had/have a lot of mixed feelings about the Rebuild films. Some fans were just craving more EVA, while other fans were frustrated with the films' changes or questioning the choice to remake the series at all. Now, I realize stuff like this is hardly unusual for a franchise as big as EVA, but considering how personal this franchise seems to be to Anno, and how the man has had documented issues with depression, I couldn't help wondering while watching 3.0 if somehow this feedback was reaching Anno and hitting him hard. Shinji's position seemed like it could be a metaphor for how Anno might be struggling with the franchise: turned on by those who once supported him, while pressured by others to move forward towards an unforseen and unpredictable climax. Either way Shinji/Anno seems to lose now.Grievous wrote: Western?

This was my interpretation, at the time I watched it. I can't say if it holds any water, because I haven't thoroughly researched the possibilities; but it made sense at the time and I liked it.

Well...Anno's mental state aside...I found the first 2 Rebuilds really good...
but the 3rd one was just so random & weird. Its like we missed some really
important developments between 2 & 3...& then get no flashbacks to fill
in the gaps.
Its like Shinji is the audience...and he's asking what happened...but no one
will tell him anything. That's how I felt.
As far as a general reaction...I wouldn't know.
Oh...and this makes me laugh every time I see it.

Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion
I question Netflix's choice of advertising music, but I'm seriously looking forward to watching this series again - and LEGALLY this time. *cough*
I genuinely have only seen the original series once, and it's been over 6 years now.....
Edit: I adjusted the last date. I realized I had a rough time marker on the first page of this thread! Man, time has flown...

Is this just the series or did they get End of Eva as well?

All houses have the same. Roof. Floor. Walls. People yelling at you that they're calling the police because you broke into their house. It's only when you give them love that they truly become Home

Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion
All 26 episodes will be available world-wide as well as Death True2 and The End of Evangelion. We know from previous updates online that they planned to redub the entire series (and have confirmation for different languages as well). There will surely be a lot of discussion around the new dub, which Amanda Winn Lee confirmed would not involve any of the original lead cast. So here’s looking forward to a large chunk of the Evangelion fandom simultaneously watching the original series at roughly the same time, around the world.

As with anything Evangelion it gets way more complicated than this, but essentially if you're new to this just watch the series, Death True2 if you want to (it's interesting, but just a recap of the series), then End of Eva (which is an alternate or 'real' ending to the series).
But the series is vital to the understanding of End of Eva so I wouldn't just watch the movies - like I said Death True2 is interesting but best viewed after the series.

Which led me down the rabbit hole of other English language Eva books coinciding with the Netflix release…

Wonder if Netflix will release a trailer for the dub before it comes out?

Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion
It seems that Netflix removed Fly Me to the Moon from the credits and episodes from their release. I guess it's probably a licensing issue.
