I second this so hard. The lighthearted, fun stuff is a huge reason why I love kaiju films. While I think a lot of the darker films are genuinely great and I love them, I have a much better time rewatching films like Son of Godzilla and Ebirah, Horror of the Deep (a film y'all have been sleepin on) rather than movies like GMK or Shin Godzilla.SoggyNoodles2016 wrote:I think the Godzilla fandom has a REALLY bad problem putting anything "serious" or "dark" on a pedestal while vehemently critiquing anything light hearted. Note: the last thing is referring to how Son Of Godzilla was considered bad because baby Godzilla, while Godzilla vs Mothra was genuinely considered great. I am not suggesting that people need to stop appreciating Shin and start loving Godzilla's Revenge.

Gotcha, just watch the bridge scene then never watch it again.Godzilla21 wrote: It's an ok entry into the lore. A little slow but the bridge scene is pretty spectacular. I'd say check it out. But don't go in expecting anything great

Although it would be a bigger modification to the lyrics, you could keep the meter better by replacing "about" with "of."goji89 wrote:I love Minya, I want him to love meDr. Professor wrote: I'm getting a half chub just thinking about it.

Re: Kaiju Fan Confessions
Still hoping for a truly serious realistic emotionally driven kaiju disaster flick. Shin came close but still not quite what I want. Shin was more about the events happening around the characters than the characters themselves. I want something more character driven than that. Cloverfield kinda had the right idea. Something like a cross between Shin Godzilla and Cloverfield maybe. Kinda like what the Random House Godzilla novels were going for. More of an ensemble piece than focusing on just 2 or 3 characters. I'd like to see the points of view of various different people from varied walks of life and how'd they react to such a fantastical situation.

I dunno if Independence Day is what he was going for...
2005 War of the Worlds might be a better comparison? In terms of dark, serious, and emotionally driven disaster flick. Though it's certainly not focused on people across the globe.

I've always wanted to see a period piece version of War of the Worlds
where the story plays out like normal for the opening of the invasion
only for the Earth's Kaiju to emerge from hiding and battle against
the Martian War Machines.
So...basically like Superman: War of the Worlds...but with Toho
kaiju in place of Superman.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superman: ... the_Worlds
I guess I used Independence Day as my example because it was hugely
popular & memorable. I mean I liked the 2005 War of the Worlds...but
its not like people remember it the same way they remember ID4.
