I dunno. At least with this Godzilla for all its flaws and lack of character at least it really is all powerful. I'm afraid on paper the 1998 Godzilla is still a Godzilla movie.

In my opinion power is a huge flaw both GINO and the anime trilogy share. G'98 he is too weak, anime trilogy he is too strong. It's the same coin just different sides.

The Return of Godzilla, Godzilla 2014 and Shin Godzilla did a good job of showing Godzilla is powerful but not invincible. The Super-X beat him, the MUTOs alone can't beat him but together kick his butt, and Shin was invulnerable to everything up till bunker busters made him bleed. Hell Burning Godzilla lost to the Super-X3. Godzilla should be powerful but not so powerful that it becomes fucking boring.

It also doesn't help that the one time we're actually gonna see him fight another monster, it's one that is too him what he is to us. He's supposed to be a super monster but yet I really don't have context or reference in film to that power outside of "oh he survived 150 nukes". Like you have to read a novel which has not been localized to even get any reference to how much more powerful he is to the other monsters. And from what I understand it's really not that impressive cause the other monsters in this universe were just big dumb mutant animals while Godzilla is a monster with sci-fi like powers. In other words all the classic Toho monsters have been downgraded to just being overgrown animals we see in the 50's American monster films while Godzilla has been at the very least kept the same nearly indestructible kaiju self.

That's not fair, that's GFW one sided fights all over again. That doesn't give me the impression they made Godzilla stronger than past versions, that gives me the impression they made the other monsters weaker than their past versions. Imagine if in Tarantula they used a rail gun on the giant spider, the movie would be over before it really gets going. And I know people are gonna say well they are going the HP Lovecraft route of humans can't do anything, look I like the idea of them being inspired by that, but they don't have to follow it to the T. Games like Eternal Darkness and Bloodborne still let you win, because they realize a game based off of Lovecraft would be a lose scenario no matter what, what fun is that for a gamer? Hence why they choose to make stories inspired by the mythos rather than based off of. Like I like they took inspiration from Lovecraft but I feel like they took too much.

I'm getting tired of film makers trying to make a OP Godzilla instead of an interesting Godzilla, so I'll end the rant with something positive, the force field being projected as a beam weapon was a cool idea.

This is the thing that pisses me off the most about this trilogy- it might as well be called "planet of Godzilla". One thing is to make an anime trilogy that's not focused on the monsters, the other is basically reducing all of the other monsters into inferior canon fodder, and leaving Godzilla and Ghidnoodle as the only "god-like" monsters by the time the trilogy takes place in. Even Mothra is basically reduced to a psychological plot device.

And ironically, by making the most powerful and god-like Godzilla, they also made it the most boring one to ever grace the screen-like corpse said above, it's a double sided coin for both G98 and it.
Even the threatening Godzillas, like G54 and GMK, had a great amount of character and personality to them. Hell, even Shin is more alive than the oversized piece of wood.
