What does this film entail for Gojira's continuity?

For the discussion of the upcoming Godzilla film by Legendary Pictures.

What does this film entail for Gojira's continuity?

Postby Kiryu » Thu Jun 02, 2011 4:57 pm

Will it start a new after after Millennium? Will Toho screw it up like FW? Will monsters from other eras be back? Will any new monsters from the film become repeat characters?

I think it's safe to assume that this movie will be an independent story. The only continuity can I see it having is with the original.

Question: What continuity?

The only Godzilla series with a real continuity to it is the Hesei saga, and even then its a total mess to actually follow thanks to the chaos that is Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah.

This film will be a stand alone with possible references to the original, thats it.

What makes you so sure the original will even be referenced?

Shit, you beat me to the punch...

But seriously, assuming the first movie is a big enough success, I think it'll start MAYBE a trilogy of films. Thats the most we can expect, I think.

But hey, long as there's a toy line, I'll be happy. =P

I wasn't talking to just G.Rex, More or less everyone who has said they think it will connect to the original film. There have been no signs what so ever that there could be reference to the original. I think It would be a cool idea, But alot of people seem to think it's going to happen.

I think this movie will be it's own entity. And even if they mention something about Godzilla appearing in the '50s it doesn't necessarily mean the movie is actually canon with the 1954 film itself.

Continuity has been sketchy at best. Heisei had the strongest as others have mentioned before, even with the "I'm My Own Grandfather" of G vs King Ghidorah. It's safe to assume a soft or hard reboot with references to the first movie, and maybe one joke at 'Zilla's expense.

Dude, the Heisei continuity is fine: Check out the stickied thread in the Heisei board. And the Showa series has a loose but traceable chronology - Everything happens in the order it was released except DAM, which is the last, and AMA, which may not actually be part of the continuity.

If only that were true...

Anywho, considering this generation's aparrent spite for anything that was made before they were born, I doubt G54 will be referenced.

You do realize the majority of the fandom, aside from whiny 12-year olds, hate this movie, right?

Funny how Gultimate decided to take me name out of a quote he agreed with.
AWESOME it up like FW..fixed it for you... doesn't sound like a whiny 12 year old to me.
I guess this is one of those instances where it takes one to know one.

He's trying to start a fight with Godzillatheultimate because he feels GTU attacked him in another topic by calling him a fanboy.
