There are a few ways a commission can go down. Usually, even if it's an original character, I'm provided some sort of artwork. Sometimes it's just very basic sketches, sometimes it's amazingly illustrated in full color. Either way tho, I can proceed with that. And if the artwork doesn't contain certain details, then yes, I make stuff up. Other times the person has only a written description of the creature, and that's when I'm required to create it from scratch based on those words. This is what I refer to as a 'concept phase', where I do some drafts of what this monster can look like, then we narrow it down to a second draft, and so on. We do this until we're both happy with something I can then further develop into a final design. This concept phase is ideal for those that have a basic idea, but need a visual artist to translate that idea onto the page. It costs a bit more tho.

Well I'm really not much of an artist, although I may be able to use existing images to create some kind of concept board. I'm definitely interested, I'll message you sometime soon!

Been working on this for about 3 months in ZBrush. Private commission. GODAIJU, a GMK/SHIN/2014 blend. Concept and art direction by Dan Dynamicmenace. This is a color render test in Keyshot. In this shot, the model isn't completed. Many details have yet to be added, including much of the overall texture of the body. But I loved how it turned out, so I thought I'd post it. The final model will be made into a 22 inch tall 3D Print. Then painted. I can't wait to see that! Lots more images coming soon.
