The NECA Shin Godzillas have hit East-coast Toys R Us stores. There were five in mine today, but I just couldn't do it with that snake-head and underbite.

But I probably will pick one up, just to support the franchise and for the joy of getting something Shin in a brick-and-mortar store. I also might remove the jaw and set it back a little, or at least try to.

Even without trying any modification, the NECA head can look much better with proper posing, the joint allows you to properly align his head, they just didn't do it in the package and a lot of buyers posting photos don't seem to try it either.

I planned to and have done some head reshaping, but before I did that I wanted to show off the figure that comes out of the box as best I could, below are my photos in the spoiler tags.

No, not before and after, those are all right out of the package, I posted two separate galleries in the NECA thread and copied them over here is all.

As far as customizing the figure, so far I just softened the head under hot water with the mouth shut, then pinched the front of his mouth and back of his head between my thumb and index finger until I was happy enough with the look then I ran it under ice cold water to harden the shape in place.

I am also going to heat the lower jaw and trim and shape the skin from the lower jaw to upper inside his mouth to be more accurate and it should expose more in a profile view of his head of the skin from his upper jaw down to the lower. The folds in his mouth make more of a > shaped opening in the movie where NECA looks more / or | as it is.

Then add some paint to his spines, tail, head and feet and I should be done.

I can probably snap some quick shots of the adjusted head while I wait for time to do the rest of the changes.

I picked up two today. Thinking about playing around with the tail fix and messing with the head, now that I'd have an extra.

They are pretty impressive in the store, the head problem notwithstanding. I kept going back and forth between the best two until I decided to just get both. I'm looking forward to seeing what I can do just manipulating the head and jaw, then heating it if I decide to. I particularly want to get his overbite right.

I posted this on the NECA thread but thought I'd put it here too. I played with one under hot water; It's not too dramatic, but he does lose some of the underbite and gain some girth to his lower jaw.

I wasn't happy to find some bent spines from packaging that I think are too thick to be heated and straightened.

I also tried putting the tail together a few different ways, but think I'm going to leave it as-is and just fix the other head so I have two complete figures.

This is with a hair dryer tonight. I think I'm pretty happy with it now. It looks great, in fact.



(The hair dryer didn't help the bent fins though...too thick at the base. But they're not too bad.)
