Jordan Vogt-Roberts on Directing a RODAN Solo Film

Post by erod510 »

Here's a little gem I found. an article from ET where director Jordan Vogt-Roberts gives his thought on Kong and the Monsterverse. The interviewer asks him on which kaiju from the upcoming Godzilla: King of the Monsters he would make a solo film on.

Here's the article, http://www.etonline.com/movies/212563_e ... sterverse/

Here's the article segment:

Interviewer: That tag also teases future appearances by kaiju like Mothra and Rodan and King Ghidorah. Hypothetically speaking, if you could direct a solo movie for one of those monsters, who would you pick?

Voght-Roberts: A solo movie for one of Godzilla's villains...you know, I love Rodan! Everyone kind of sh*ts on Rodan for some reason. And maybe it's just because his name is so similar to my name, but I have this pity for him! [Laughs] I'm a sucker for Rodan.

Can say I'm actualli intrigued by this.

I'd be okay with this. I liked Skull Island and I'd like to see what he could do with Rodan assuming a solo film ever gets green lit.

Let's not jump to conclusions. He said he'd like to do one, not that it was confirmed. Ultimately it's up to the studio to decide now.

A solo Rodan film sounds like the logical choice after GvsKong. Obviously throw other monsters in it though. Gotta cut that budget down.

LP is most likely looking at 2021 films now. Honestly could hear something brewing up before years end if they wanted to go this route.

We need Vogt-Roberts to continue this universe. He obviously has knowledge of these monsters.

If this does become a reality, they have to make Megaguirus the main opponent. I mean it just works perfectly. She's a giant Meganula whom Rodan preys on in the original.

The only downside to that would be that Legendary/Warner would need to pay a couple extra million bucks for the rights. What sort of original creation would make a suitable opponent for Rodan in your imagination?

The only thing I'm worried is if whether or not Rodan survives the events of G:KOTM, assuming Ghidorah doesn't kill him first. Here's hoping for the best.

I'd be down for something like this. Especially if Megaguirus is Rodan's opponent.

What if there's two Rodan's like in the original movie? Then maybe King Ghidorah kills the other, while the Rodan we all know would want revenge teaming up with Godzilla and Mothra to avenge his mate? Or it could end up being a prequel before the events, that could always work.

I doubt we'll hear anything this year, or next. If at any point there will be more films, I'm expecting them to be set up after Godzilla: King of the Monsters. We don't even know how their updated designs will be received.
