Something Odd about Tokyo Shock covers

Has anyone ever noticed how for Space Amoeba and Atragon, you often see a picture of the item that doesn't match the actual Region 1 release? The "alternate" ones look like the R2 covers with English added.

Were the "alternate" R1 pics just conceptual pics that have stuck around on internet shopping sites or does anyone actually have a case with that cover?

Those would just be mock-ups done so the retailers and press would have something to show early on. Cover designs may not be finalized until shortly before printing... I've received many press releases over the years where the advance artwork does not match what's eventually used.

kpa's correct, it's a very common practice, heck there were changes in the cover for G:U a few times as well if you want a more direct example.

Not to mention, Disney/Buena Vista's practice of doing alternate covers with large bold title text, primarily for use in ads. Also remember Sony's Godzilla Final Wars cover? They revised that later on.
