Monster Toy Spotlight #39: Rodan (Showa)

Post by ebirahsmeg1 »

Shocked that the samurai of the sky Rodan has never had a weekly spotlight yet. This thread is intended for all Showa Rodan figures (be it '56 or 60s version).

One of my favorite Showa Rodan figures is the Marmit MH 56 Rodan...looks fantastic next to GigaBrain's '64 and '65 Godzilla figures

Rather like that contrast between the baby blue and the brown.

It's rather surprising how relatively few Rodan figures there are. At least compared to the other "big 5". Hell even Gigan probably has more figures than Rodan. It's especially true of the 56 version.

There are more figures of Rodan than some may realize, but there definitely should be more.

I've always loved Rodan as a kaiju character, and I especially like the money shot when he lands on and crumbles the train station! (disregard the cables holding him up in the air!! ;) )

One moment while I get my Revoltech out of his box...

Despite being my all-time favorite monster, I have a scarcity of figures to represent him. That said, I love both of these.
BTW, does anyone else have trouble getting their High Grade to stand? Mine's left wingtip gets in the way.

A shot so good they'd use it again! ;) One of my favorite scenes. I distinctly remember seeing that part for the first time as a kid, when it kind of does a close up of his legs swooping down and the wind blowing all the train cars away. And then there's that one soldier that holds onto a tree for dear life before the wind takes him as well! Such an enjoyable film.

As for figures of the original Rodan... I have absolutely none that I can think of, save for a little Bullmark replica. Kind of disappointing considering how much I loved the old Rodan. I wish I had the Revoltech. :(

I have the Revoltech Rodan and I love him. He was also up for a great price too. Amazon had a flash sale a few years back and I got him for $7 brand new. It's a great figure and I absolutely love the articulation.

Always confused me why Bandai never made a 60's Rodan.

Just to round things out (I know K7 has already seen this one), here's the photo I took of my solid-color P.A. Rodan, from the Varan thread.

I bought Pilot Ace's painted version of the Rodan figure, too...I'll see if I can make some time to take a photo or two of that one.
