Re: Destroy All Monsters AIP HD Reconstruction
I'm gonna have to keep myself posted on this and the Sea Monster Titra reconstructions. Missed out on getting the DVD/Blu-Ray of DAM with the AIP dub and I would absolutely love to hear it for myself.
Well, that's certainly a thing.

Re: Destroy All Monsters AIP HD Reconstruction
This is like 95% done. All that's left is the background for the opening logo/title card and then my added end credits.
Check these out in the meantime:
The first blue circle that appears in the AIP logo isn't present in the copy of their version of DAM that's been widely bootlegged, but is based on a more complete version of the logo I found on YouTube and used as a reference/source for the colors and the capitol logo. The "The End" card does appear oddly late, but that's where it appears in the original recording. All of the timing in these videos is based on the AIP bootleg and accurate to the frame.

Re: Destroy All Monsters AIP HD Reconstruction
Just like the Godzilla 1985 restoration, I am really looking forward to this one! I am glad that there are people out there that loves these old (and somewhat neglected) dubs as much as I do! Quick question, are you planning to have some custom blu ray artwork created for DAM too?

I actually didn't ask Video Collector to make those; he just made them. I wasn't planning on requesting more for my future projects.

Ah! This looks great as well!
I have the Media Blasters BD with the AIP dub already, but this looks like a neat alternative.

I'm this close to being finished. I swear, I think I've clocked more time in paint.net than in Vegas on this edit.

Re: Destroy All Monsters AIP HD Reconstruction
I ended up abandoning that approach after it became apparent I wasn't going to get a seamless match on all those jagged edges, so instead I approximated the lighter background using elements from both the initial screenshot and the darker background. Here's the end result:
I'll be slowly dissolving between those two images in order to simulate the gradual brightening of the original background; all I've got to do is put that behind the opening logo and title card and the movie will be officially finished; then it's just adding my end credits and rendering.

Re: Destroy All Monsters AIP HD Reconstruction
The project is finished, rendered and uploading to MEGA right now. After that it'll go up on MediaFire, then I'll update the OP and send you all the links. I'm really excited to share this with you guys; it looks terrific.
The file is pretty large and will probably take a long time to upload, but the plus side to that is it's only slightly lower quality (technically speaking, like in terms of bitrate) than the Media Blasters Blu-ray. I got turned on to MakeMKV and stream extraction/remuxing shortly before I began actively working on the project and learned how to get MP4s from Blu-rays without any additional compression, which means that this edit is not just at a higher resolution than the Godzilla 1985 edit, but also far higher in all-around quality. Some nice, healthy, visible grain, far fewer artifacts, the whole nine yards. You can expect similar results from the 1080p Godzilla 1985, when that's done and released.

Currently watching it. So glad to finally hear this dub. I must say, you did a great job on getting this one done. A+ in my book.

Re: Destroy All Monsters AIP HD Reconstruction AVAILABLE NOW
I'm glad to hear it. It's a shame these dubs aren't more widely available these days; my goal with these projects is to ensure that high-quality versions of these films exist so there's a solid option for watching them in English besides VHS rips and the International dubs.

I watched the DAM AIP HD reconstruction over the weekend and I have to say it looked fantastic. Thank you very much for putting it together!

Re: Destroy All Monsters AIP HD Reconstruction AVAILABLE NOW
Glad you enjoyed it! Be sure to stay tuned for my future projects if you liked that; it looks like what I'll most likely be doing next is the 1080p Godzilla 1985, followed by the KotM/'85 double feature, but after that I've got some other Showa dubs on my list to give the HD treatment.

Re: Destroy All Monsters AIP HD Reconstruction AVAILABLE NOW
Out of curiosity, are you gonna consider redoing some of the Classic Media library of films for HD? They're certainly in less urgent need of a reconstruction, but I'm curious what your thoughts were on the subject.

They're definitely on my list! I haven't really decided what to do after '85 and the double feature, but Godzilla vs. the Thing, Ghidrah, Monster Zero, Son of Godzilla and Smog Monster are all on the list.

Re: Destroy All Monsters AIP HD Reconstruction AVAILABLE NOW
Just wanted to say that this project looks real good. I love all the AIP dubs since those are the ones I seen when I was younger. Keep up the great work!
I have most of the AIP dubs on VHS but they are not great because they are VHS tapes .
Added in 13 hours 4 minutes 32 seconds:
Just took a gander at the film and it looks beautiful! Thanks for the great job! I know it probably took a lot hours to put together.
Not able to play on my laptop because it is older but I played it on my blu-ray player through a portable HD and it worked great!
Thanks again!

Re: Destroy All Monsters AIP HD Reconstruction AVAILABLE NOW
Glad you enjoyed it! This project actually only took me a few days once I actually started working on it; the actual editing and syncing the Blu-ray material to the VHS bootleg source only took me a few hours. The credits and such were more difficult and a lot more time-consuming. All told, though, this didn't take me nearly as long or as much work as Godzilla 1985 did.Kore321 wrote:Just took a gander at the film and it looks beautiful! Thanks for the great job! Re: Destroy All Monsters AIP HD Reconstruction AVAILABLE NOW
I just happened to check the beginning of this topic and saw your list of changes the AIP version made. Thank you for making that, I had no idea just how many tiny edits were made. Especially that one shot of Minya while Kumonga and Mothra shoot webbing, I probably never would have noticed that!
