Monster Toy Spotlight #17 - Mogera (Showa)

Post by SUPERTOHOREMIX »

Previous Spotlights:
http://www.tohokingdom.com/forum/viewto ... 11&t=24335

Time to focus the spotlight on a critter that gets little attention. Mogera. But you say "BUT GVSSG?!1!!"

Yes, It is Mogera, not the one most are familar with. Hold on to your butts, as this time machine is about to warp back to 1957. That's right, The Mogera in question the Original Mysterian Machine!

All I have of this incarnation in toy form is the Revoltech:
http://i.imgur.com/CfDzEs5.jpg < Could not shrink it ...

While in my opinion it is the weakest of the Toho Revoltech's, it's still neat to have this guy. Who else can say "Hey look, we made a SA figure of am obscure Showa Monster!!"

Now the interesting part, what Mogera toys do you folks have?
Get those Mysterian saucers in full gear and unleash your Mogera's!!!

Here's a photo I took for a fan film that I posted in the Mechagodzilla thread; Moguera 1957, along with Mechagodzilla.

They're the Marusan releases. While there is a version of the suit, this Moguera is the "concept" version of the monster. So instead of being based upon the suit it's based upon the maquette from the 50s. Very cool!

All I've got is the Revoltech too. Not a whole lot of figures out there of this guy.

I was initially thinking the same thing, but after thinking about it, Showa Moguera actually has had more figures produced of him than some may realize...in fact, almost everytime I've gone "figure hunting", various figures of him almost always seem to pop up during these adventures. I'm sure someone like KaijuZoo would have quite a few interesting Showa Moguera-related (speaking of which, where did KaijuZoo disappear to? We miss your presence in these toy threads!)

I'm out of town this weekend, so I'll look through my closet when I get back and see what Moguera Showa figures I have lying around (Japanese apartments are way too small to display everything  ). So if someone could give this thread a bump, it would be appreciated.

In the meantime, here is an online review:

Oh thanks EB, I am still around lurking but very busy with moving our household goods as well as assisting with the move of my wife's aunt. So much of my kaiju stuff is packed up at the new house, we'll still be in Ohio for a while yet. And I also still have a lot to sell on my Moving Sale list.

^Just making you're still alive ;) I might be moving myself next year into a bigger place, so I might be in the same boat a year from now.

Next weekend, you want to take Monster Toy Spotlight #18 if you have time?

Another online look at a Moguera figure:

Revoltech Moguera (Toyfreakz)

As I did in another Spotlight thread, here are some figures posted on MZ about 3 years ago from a member named eabaker (who unfortunately has stopped posting on that board):

And I believe the figure below is a Marusan figure? :?: If anyone can identify it, please post!

Back from my business trip, and it seems the only Showa Mogera figure I have is the Revoltech  I could have sworn I had a much larger Showa Mogera figure lying around...it might back in the states.

Better late than never... As promised, a couple of shots of Marusan's movie-version Mogera, something I was delighted to pick up:

The colors really make it stand out, and it's one of my favorite replicas of this monster.

And for the strangest blind date in history, here's Mogera with Amapro / Marusan's King Caesar (more photos of that one on the KC thread)...

Sadly, it appears that the only Moguera Showa figure I have is the Revoltech figure (complete w/ broken antenna  Be it Revoltech, SHMA, or NECA, these type of figures are just too damn fragile for my tastes).

Image

I've got the small Mysterians alien figure and Markalite Cannon accessory packed up somewhere...

I really need to get the Marmit, Marusan, or Xplus figure.
