Monster Toy Spotlight #19- King Caesar (Showa)

Post by Lain Of The Wired »

This weeks monster toy spotlight shines a light on everyone's favorite Okinawan demon, appearing in the 1974 movieGodzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, my personal favorite monster, King Caesar!
Share whatever you got of this guy here.

I'm usually the guy to post the vintage pieces of Showa monsters, but sadly King Caesar never got a vinyl figure release by Bullmark. It wasn't until 19 years after the movie's release until King Caesar got a vinyl made of him by Bandai in 1993. Originally released in 8 inch scale (pictured left), and later released again in 6 inch scale as part of the Gdzilla Island line. The 6 inch version was given a beautiful repaint for the Movie Monsters release in 2003 (pictured right)

Thanks. Methinks you should spend some time on ClubToyko.org checking out the Marmit figures (i'm partial to the Para Baby and Monster Heaven lines)

Since Dopko doesn't post here let me just leave this here:

Just curious, but does anyone have the "angry" variant? It has his ears sticking up in the air. I have never laid eyes upon it...

Yup, and the above Clubtokyo photo is the only time I've laid eyes on it. Does anyone on this board own it?

In the meantime, here is an online review of the Parababy glow figure posted earlier by KlenSeven:

This may be the closest thing to a "Bullmark" King Caesar that we'll ever get...
Image
Marusan teamed up with Amapro to produce this, uh, "creatively interpreted" King Caesar, along with a couple of other Toho kaiju. Strange as it is, this figure, priced at only ¥3500 when I found it, was something I could not resist.
Image

The photo below gives you some idea of his size: just slightly smaller than standard Marusan or Marmit MH figures.
ImageSomething about his pose and expression remind me of a used car salesman...

^ i don't think ever saw that one for sale

I'm surprised at how big that Amapro figure is. VF had that one and a glow variant for sale recently. Might still be there. I've been tempted by the Amapro Kamakuras and seeing that size adds to the temptation.

IMO, you really can't go wrong with the Amapro / Marusan Kamacuras. The sculpt is beautiful, and they scale well with the Marmit Monster Heavens.

None of the three color schemes / paint jobs for Kamacuras is as flashy as a typical MH, but they look great. I couldn't stop at one... I bought (you guessed it) three.

If it will help you decide whether to go for one, I could take a photo of said bugs menacing the MH Godzilla '67 and Minya.

Ok, it's Tuesday now, and Spotlight #20 still hasn't been posted (no worries g2vd as we all get busy from time to time, so you can do #21 or another one down the road whenever you're ready). So...

Would DoctorMafune, ILL GREEN, AWMGodzilla62, or Lolitra like to take Spotlight #20? Whoever claims it first gets it!
