Monster Toy Spotlight #16 - Heisei Godzilla (1989-94)

Post by Tyrant_Lizard_King »

Seeing as how I was chosen for the next spotlight and the fact I have the most figures of him I chose Heisei Godzilla. This covers only the Kawakita design but excludes Burning Godzilla as he is distinctive enough to warrant a thread of his own. Generic takes on the basic design, like Trendmasters, are welcome as well.

Marmit BioGoji - Previews Exclusive. First Marmit Figure I owned and holds a place in my heart. That bronze spray if the stuff of angels man, it looks so good and it complements the gold and silver to a tee.

I've got several various Heisei Godzilla figures, and I'll post them one by one as this thread progresses (I would think Heisei Godzilla would get the most posts compared to other threads, being that Heisei Godzilla figure are without a doubt the most produced Godzilla-related figures of almost all lines, including SHMA/Neca). For now, I'll start with the Marmit Monster Heaven Bio-Goji version 1 (the one posted by Tyrant_Lizard_King was the version 2 released four years later):

NECA 1994 Godzilla. Pretty much every Godzilla design from 89-94 in one.

Also, the two Trendmaster's figures I have, the Bendy Godzilla and the New York Attack play set figure I believe.
The New York Attack figure was my first G figure, so it holds a special place in my heart.

I don't have any individual shots of the following Heisei figures (only group photo shots, and they're all back in America), but the following photo includes the following:

Bandai Giant Godzilla 91 / Bandai 8 inch Godzilla 91 / Bandai 8 inch Godzilla 93

He's a beauty isn't he. Even with all my Xplus figures he's still probably my favorite figure in my entire collection. I just love that figure!

Yup, it's a classic that I won't be parting with anytime soon (got him ridiculously cheap too...about $25. And it was in near mint condition to boot).

When it comes to Heisei Godzilla, TOHO seems to always prefer focusing on the 93-94 suits and their main image of Godzilla. Personally, I think Godzilla 91 is the image that they *should* be focusing on, as it's just awe-inspiring and projects the immense power of the beast like no other suit. Sadly, it seems like the 91 design often gets lumped in with the 89 suit (which I also like, but the 91 suit took all the strengths of that suit to a whole another level for GvsKG. Godzilla 91 is right up there with the Godzilla 64 suit as one of my all time favorite suits.

Lately, it seems that only the 30 cm Xplus line is getting all of the Sakai love, but I will be patient and hold out hope for a solid Xplus G91 25cm figure someday. :g2k:

In the meantime, here is the SHMA Godzilla 94 (still surprised that more people haven't been posting their SHMA/NECA figures in these threads :?: ):

Yeah I really don't like the MoguGoji design. I always thought it had kind of a derpy face. The Burning variation alleviates that somewhat with the glowing red eyes.

So would the Sh Monsterarts Godzilla 1995 Rebirth ver. Still work for this thread or would he be with Burning Godzilla?
Yes, Hatsune is my Waifu...

There is also a Desugoji variant of this sculpt that has some nice transparency, but we'll save that for another thread :)

To be honest, the Godzilla 89 & 91 suits are the only Heisei G figures that I really care about owning good 8 inch/25cm figures of. The 92 / 93 / 94 designs I couldn't care less about...sadly, the 94 version is the one both TOHO and toy companies often focus on the most in general marketing campaigns and toylines...

Some online reviews of a few Heisei Xplus figures:

Xplus 30cm Godzilla 91 (Leslie Chambers & Fresh Vinyl)

X-Plus 30cm Yuji Sakai Godzilla 1989(Fresh Vinyl)

X-Plus 30cm Godzilla 1989 (regular sculpt) (Fresh Vinyl)

Xplus 25cm Godzilla 89(Samson West)

Did the light up 25cm Xplus G89 come with the 25cm Biollante as a set?

^ It is. I think when it was originally released the Ric Version had a Biollante tentacle and damaged hand, but for this set they did the standard and added light up function. The Biollante has two different light up modes, but we'll save that for a different thread :)

Of all 3 X-Plus G'89 sculpts, i think this one has the best teeth, which is the only downfall of the Sakai.
