Different Versions of The Godzilla Collection

Postby Gojira-Fan » Tue Apr 19, 2011 8:03 pm

So I ordered "The Godzilla Collection" A few months ago. I saw a review for it yesterday, and the box he had was different then mine. You can see the review that I saw here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEHSkAKlRyE

My version is pretty much just a cardboard sleeve around the DVDs. However, his version top comes off and it appears that there is a little case inside it.
So, does anyone know why there is a difference here?

You might have gotten a used copy that didn't include the holding box for the films. Where did you get your copy from?

I bought mine straight from Classic Media's website, and it had all of the things you don't have. gvamp's hunch is probably correct.

I ordered mine straight from Amazon.
I heard that Classic Media has replaced the normal box seen in the video I linked with a cardboard box sleeve that has the same artwork. Can anyone confirm this? It kind of makes me upset, especially considering how much nicer that other box looks.

Are you sure you didn't order from a seller on Amazon by accident? How long ago was the set purchased? If it was recently I'd ask for a refund or at the very least contact CM about it.

As far as I know they've used the same same box since the boxset went into production in 2007. It wouldn't make sense for them to switch packaging on it.

The crappy box is part of a Classic Media reprint. As far as I know everything else in the set is the same, but the outer box now sucks. I have one too, and want the nicer set, but paying 60 more bucks for just a box is not going to cut it. One seller on amazon has the original set for 80, but you cant beat amazon's price of 20 for basically the same thing...

Yeah, I think it's a reprint. It says Copyright 2010 on the box, and the set came out in 2007.
So when did you guys get the box set? I got mine January of this year.

This kind of reminds me of how companies reissue seasons of TV shows with the same package design, but a lot cheaper. Like Futurama, Family Guy, and American Dad. First I've heard of this deal with the Godzilla Collection box being different, though.

Well, I don't think Classic Media has announced that they changed the box set. Maybe this is one of the reasons (seeing as this New box would be cheaper than the older one) why they are now being sold for $20 on Amazon.

I got the box for my birthday two years ago and it was the original design, with the top coming off.

They might be using different copies of the DVD because I know my AMA and ToMG was advertised as having trailers on them and they didn't. I got the boxset the week it launched too. Unless they're talking about the promo trailer at the beginning of the films.

Keith you worked on these where the later films supposed to have the japanese and/or american trailers from the films?

Later re-issues of REVENGE and TOMG had the trailers added.

I bough the individual releases from CM's website in the Spring of 2008, and they STILL didn't have the trailers. A discount store in my area called "Five Below" had them in their DVD section about a year ago, so I re-bought both titles for $5 each (hoping they actually contained them) and they did in fact have the trailers on them. I'm guessing only the retail versions had them on there.

I bought the box set when it first came out and my copies of ALL MONSTERS ATTACK and TERROR OF MECHAGODZILLA didn't have their trailers as well. I think the packages said they did, and the discs didn't... or maybe the other way around. Also, just to bug you guys, check this out:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... &viewitem=

I won this action for only 99 cents. Among the many things in it is the original Classic Media DVD box. Now BEFORE anyone asks, it's ALREADY BEEN PROMISED to someone in specific. So, it's not for sale or trade. However, though the auction didn't explicitly say this, I was surprised to find the boxes did in fact have all the original cases inside them (AND the Classic Media ones still had bellybands). So, those ones are for sale/trade, if you need a new one; I thought I was screwed when my original INVASION OF ASTRO-MONSTER has a cracked inner case, I just swapped it when I got the box set.

I pre-ordered the individual discs before they came out. AMA had a trailer but TOMG didn't. :?
