Yuck, yuck, yuck.

May as well make Superman vs Frodo Baggins while you're at it.

The only way to make the fight last longer than two seconds is to nerf the shit out of Godzilla, which is majorly uncool.

I hope this is true. Also I always thought this could work in a more "realistic" setting by having Kong fight a young Godzilla that is the same size as Kong and thus evening the playing field. It would also give us a new perspective on Godzilla as a smaller version capable of destroying cities on a smaller scale.

Agreed. Lets wait until Legendary (you know, the guys in charge of these movies) confirms this and THEN get excited. Also, wasn't this the same logic Godzilla-Movies.com used awhile back?

Same. A lot of people are forgetting that Toho still has a say in whether this happens or not. Last crossover in recent memory was 1977-1979 for Marvel Comics. They've been stingy with their property ever since.

Yeah, this is my position on the whole thing. Not sure what to think, honestly. If they do it, I'll be on board...because, why the heck not?

It worked then because it was played as a pretty broad comedy (with a certain frisson coming from the somewhat serious presentation of Godzilla, but he was still being played for less heavy impact than in his first two outings). I have doubts about a modern American audience's interest in - or a studio's willingness to put a big budget behind - a similarly campy production. And I have a hard time imagining how a "serious" version would work while being at all faithful to both characters; nor do I personally see the appeal in such a thing.

The old school movie matinee audience that turned out for things like big movie monster mash-ups just doesn't seem to exist anymore.

Actually the last crossover was in 1995 when Godzilla's resided stateside at Dark Horse Comics when he butted heads with Dark Horse's size changing hero, HERO ZERO.

I don't see why Toho would say no. I mean they were so desperate for this they tried to put Godzilla up against Mechanikong for fuck's sake.

Wonder how (providing this is even somewhat true) much this effects Skull Island. Would they make the movie in the Godzilla universe? would the godzilla vs king kong movie be its own canon?

i have so many questions for this hypothetical madness

I'm always a little shocked when people don't want a new Godzilla film.

I think we know that a bad Godzilla film isn't going to kill the franchise forever and if it doesn't look like something you wanna see (if and when you actually see something from it, not just make up your mind about it all beforehand) then don't see it.

I very much consider TFA to be half-assed. What a generic film which only fed on nostalgia, it brought nothing new to the table.
That's not true. C3PO had a red arm.

It's not a matter of not wanting a new Godzilla film; if there were zero chance of any other Godzilla movie being made, I'm sure we'd all take this over nothing. But, if we go on the assumption that Legendary is definitely going to continue producing Godzilla movies, we probably all have ideas about what would or would not be likely to make for an especially good Godzilla movie.
