godzilla has been portrayed as a male in every movie, from 1954-2014 (not counting zilla) except in GMK where he is portrayed as a demon

Technically, I see most non-specific Godzillas to be an 'it'/either. I always refer to... well, him as male, and since that's pretty much the norm him being male is probably the more likely guess; but it could be either way and it wouldn't make a huge difference.

This whole thread in it's self is a fan canon thread, Toho's official view is that Godzilla is a male and that will never change. just like 98 while we can ignore and consider it just a another Kaiju movie, we have to recognize that Toho sees it as a Godzilla movie and that will never change. the same with G's gender I consider Godzilla male, but I have no problem with a person seeing him as female I mean it's a bit weird to change the gender of a established character or RAGE as long as they recognize that it is head canon and not official. though there are some problems with such a head canon as designs such as 1975 looks very much like a male.

I mean, we were having a perfectly civil discussion about meaningless hypotheticals, but you can go ahead and needlessly turn it into a passive-aggressive attack on people you don't understand, that's fine too

I wasn't trying to do that, I was just stating my opinion. I didn't realize my post looked like that.

I think he was just messing around about typical SJW 'I-identify-as-blank-gender/sexual' things, not necessarily the topic itself :P

Which begs the question of why it was posted to begin with. It might not necessarily have been MEANT as a passive-aggressive jab, though I can see how it would appear as one, but it's spam at best.

I really see Godzilla as a male, but this franchise really needs way more female monsters, so I'm totally open to the idea of Godzilla being a female or at least meeting another female. And the idea where him and his mate fight sounds intriguing.....I should write that.....

Does the title "King of the Monsters" tell you anything?

The fact this thread is still going should answer that question.

The title "king of the monsters" is so infrequently referenced in canon that I wouldn't give it too much weight in discussions of canonical questions

But it's also worth noting that both Japan and America, particularly in the 1950s, had extremely sexist cultures, and that would have influenced the moniker as the idea of a female or feminine being being that destructive or powerful would have been considered pretty novel. I think the fact that it took a monster as overtly feminine as Mothra for such an idea to be entertained sort of speaks to that.

But that's (ugh, I hate that I'm finding myself using this word twice in the same day on the same board, but, dammit, it fits) paratextual evidence, and so of secondary relevance at best.
Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.
