I think that prejudiced (okay, strong word, biased then) critics would still bitch about that though.

Why are people so hung up on what critics and a minor portion of the audience will think? There are critics who will scoff and look down their noses no matter how good it is. And then there are people who will nitpick and complain every tiny thing.

I'm opposed to making Godzilla anything but a ancient radioactive dinosaur because Godzilla doesn't need to be anything but that. His vague origin allow the character to represent a wide range if themes based on the scenario of the film in question. Making him a genetic abomination or whatever immediately marginalizes the character into something one note and poorly represents the character for a new audience.

Godzilla could very easily and effectively be used as a "specter of the Cold War". The side effects of nuclear arms buildup is still dangerous now (like I said, 250 Suitcase Nukes are unaccounted for).

HA! You're bluffing. I live in Louisiana. The water table is way higher down here. Any basement would be a pool.

Plus they're under my bed anyway.

Or I could fill it with alligators. Because, natural, they're always piled up against my door. 'Cause it's Louisiana.

As far as this whole character nonsense... the original is still one of the best Godzilla films. And guess what? Humans were a very large part of that movie.

Fixed.
And the only reason that be true is because it is... the first movie. G54 >every other Godzilla movie except for DAM.

tenup wrote:If Godzilla was to appear in our world and reek havok on a major city, and couldnt be taken down by conventional weapons, wouldn't you think science and religious experts would be all over the subject? There will definantely be a scientist in the film but why the absense of a religious figure? How will a religious figure explain what Godzilla represents as oppose to what a scientist can conclude? I think that will be an interesting debate which could be added in some section of the film.

In reality world, this would happen. But as someone else mentioned in this thread, the goal of the film will be to deliver a 'Godzilla Experience'. Religion never really popped up in the other films beyond the GMK pseudo-shinto thing. Why bring it in now?

But then, Why Not? you ask.

Well, people get offended over that subject really easily. Trying to say anything serious about religion or politics in a movie isn't going to help it when you're going for a blockbuster type movie. Anything anti-Christian that pops up is going to have a backlash from the church community (and probably will anyway), and anything pro-Christian is going to be seen as lame by everyone else. Do we really want to see Jesus come out of the heavens and kill Godzilla once and for all? Not really. It'd be entertaining, but, not satisfactory.

Look, those 3 KWCs are awesome (and the latter two are among my favourites) but as a movie? A Godzilla movie? I think it would be terrible. I think even Tom would say it would be terrible. If a kaiju anime or TV series was made this could work, but as a movie? It would near impossible to make good.

I just thought it was very well done and it would be cool to see on the big screen. My regards to Thomas Singleton for a job well done.

Maybe if this film was being made by 12 year old fanboys.

Mr. Clean wrote:Yes, we're totally going to have a character in a big major blockbuster film in this age with a character named Steve Martin. Think about that for a second, will you?

Actually, the name Steve Martin is pretty common, like John Smith. The film being set in 1954, at which time the famous actor would have only been 9 years old, would help to enforce a distance between the two. And, as was pointed out regarding Mike Meyers earlier, having a fictional character with the same name as a real person (especially when the fictional character was created years prior to the celebrity's emergence) is nothing more than coincidence.

Calling him "Stephen" in the film would also help differentiate the two.

Although, I have to admit I have always resented that a pro wrestler stole the Six Million Dollar Man's name ;)
Bombs versus bombs, missiles versus missiles, and now a new superweapon to throw upon us all! As a scientist - no, as a human being - I can't allow that to happen!

I heard it was some modified Hedorah that got energy from chlorophyll, but as Baragon4ever stated, we don't know until it comes out.
