Today people's faiths seem to be a conflicting issue and so I think in any major situation in the event of a Godzilla or alien invasion, its likely to squash what people think they know and redirect religious leaders and groups to focus on whats what. Of course its fiction but what if? And yeah there can be political figures and the whole nine but give the religious aspect a part in this too. Especially if they decide to do something with Mothra and having her play the part of earths protector.

Exactly. What's at the heart of so many great monster movies (like Gojira or Cloverfield) is the examination of how people respond to threats they have no frame of reference for. People occasionally question their faith after having just learned about the Holocaust. Who knows what would happen if a disaster of such epic proportions happened to them? A religious element (not a major plot point) could work quite nicely, like a person praying repeatedly and passionately for an end to Godzilla and receiving no answer, leading them to question the existence of any God. It could work.

The most I can see for the film using the Steve Martin character is someone reading a newspaper that shows his name as an author.

People say Jesus will return one day. I say Godzilla already beat him to it. In all seriousness I can even compare how the 2 have similarities to one another. Godzilla is often misinterpreted by the media and general public as having a green hue and eating trains while Jesus has been said to either be a white male with blue eyes and blond hair at the same time the black Jew's claim that he was a dark skinned man with wool like dark hair.

How everything contradicts itself is funny to me and drives people ignorant. So what Im getting at is yeah Godzilla is Sci Fi but it so much reflects on our misunderstanding of actual facts.

Characters with the last names Morse or Burr would be nice.

I haven't read the entire topic, but whoever said that Transformers was any decent rendition of the franchise at all is so obviously mistaken. In a series called Transformers, the actual Transformers got very little screen time and plot relevance, despite being the most pivotal of characters. Several humans were thrown in for no real reason, and those teenagers. GOD those teenagers.
I'm not sure how the second movie was because I didn't watch it, but from my reading and research, it was god awful.

Anyway, I'm feelin that G2012 will have some sort of darkness in lieu of The Guardians or Watchmen, though hopefully without the main character sex scenes. Haha. It doesn't have to be needlessly violent or with heavy undertones and plot points. It needs to be a movie about Godzilla, not about the violence or themes. It needs to be about Godzilla and the humans and the effect Godzilla has on them.

I agree that knee jerk politics and shit will make a decent plot, and can even convey lots of emotion on screen. For example, lets say that the UN Council has ordered the immediate destruction of Godzilla, and doing so has angered the beast and set him loose on a rampage. The military fails, and whatever city Godzilla is in is destroyed, as helicopters circle big G from a nice distance, and the videos show destruction of a nuclear fallout level. Everybody in the Council room is feeling god awful, and they finally see the light in what they do-- yeah whatever.

Some shit like that.

I agree.

IF a religion angle should be taken, someone should point out that Godzilla is The Beast From the Sea in Revelation. Only problem is that he looks completely different. But a biblical reference could be made.

About this whole comparison between Godzilla and Jesus... so they've both been misrepresented by the media. So have politicians, protesters, corporations, children's toys, food, and sex. What's your point, and why should we be concerned with it? There's not really much beyond that you can draw between the two.

You mean the False-Prophet? He's supposed to be a religous leader who supports the Anti-Christ's (who was known as the monster from the land) reign. He's not a literal monster, at least as far as outward appearances are concerned.

The Leviathan would make more sense. Or hell, maybe Bahamaut from Islamic text.

But in all seriousness, no... I don't want to see Godzilla being associated with any sort of religious identity. I don't mind seeing people refering to him as "God's Wrath" as a background element, but don't make it part of the main theme. Godzilla isn't meant to be interpreted as some beast sent by some deity or as a religious metaphor.

Especially when this film is supposed to deliver (or should) a proper "Godzilla Experience". Different themes and experimentations like this was appropriate for the "Elseworld/Multiverse" style Millennium films, but not in this film.

This is the description in Job chapter 41
14Who dares open the doors of his mouth, ringed about with his fearsome teeth?15His back has rows of shields tightly sealed together;16each is so close to the next that no air can pass between.17They are joined fast to one another; they cling together and cannot be parted.18His snorting throws out flashes of light; his eyes are like the rays of dawn.19Firebrands stream from his mouth; sparks of fire shoot out.20Smoke pours from his nostrils as from a boiling pot over a fire of reeds.21His breath sets coals ablaze, and flames dart from his mouth.22Strength resides in his neck; dismay goes before him.23The folds of his flesh are tightly joined; they are firm and immovable.24His chest is hard as rock, hard as a lower millstone.25When he rises up, the mighty are terrified; they retreat before his thrashing.26The sword that reaches him has no effect, nor does the spear or the dart or the javelin.27Iron he treats like straw and bronze like rotten wood.28Arrows do not make him flee, slingstones are like chaff to him.29A club seems to him but a piece of straw, he laughs at the rattling of the lance.30His undersides are jagged potsherds, leaving a trail in the mud like a threshing-sledge.31He makes the depths churn like a boiling cauldron and stirs up the sea like a pot of ointment.32Behind him he leaves a glistening wake; one would think the deep had white hair.33Nothing on earth is his equal— a creature without fear.34He looks down on all that are haughty; he is king over all that are proud.

The description is really not that far off.

If Godzilla was to appear in our world and reek havok on a major city, and couldnt be taken down by conventional weapons, wouldn't you think science and religious experts would be all over the subject? There will definantely be a scientist in the film but why the absense of a religious figure? How will a religious figure explain what Godzilla represents as oppose to what a scientist can conclude? I think that will be an interesting debate which could be added in some section of the film.

I believe those people were nazis. No one knows what Jesus looks like.

Didn't this happen in Advent of Legion? With that soldier quoting the Bible. Yeah it wouldn't work if the movie was based on that.

Godzilla 1995, you sir earned my respect.

That was the worst aspect of the film. Godzilla's motives were pretty rediculous.

Nah, it was more about Japan's lack of respect for their fallen soldiers and their desire to forget the mistakes they made in WWII.
