Megalon Redesign

Postby Darkness » Wed Feb 09, 2011 8:32 pm

A long time ago on the old forum, I remember doing a Megalon redesign at some point. Thinking back on that drawing, it wasn't that great. So I decided to take the time to redo my previous revamp of the character. It may be hard to make out some details because I drew it with a ball point pen. Any opinions or criticisms?

Thats pretty cool it looks sort of like one of those bug monsters in the movie called Mimic.(Also do you still have the old drawing of Megalon and if you do, can you post a pic of it on here?)

Well, it took a bit of searching through the old forum, but I finally found it. I did it in MS Paint back in 2005. Looking back on it now, I think it's complete rubbish. Makes me wonder how I even got any praise for my art on the forum back then, haha.

Pretty cool redesign. Faithful, but a little more accurate to his somewhat insectoid appearance.

Give him a stubby little tail. Then it's pretty much perfect.

It kicks ass above the hips. Below... not so much. Really don't like those legs at all. Aside from that it's awesome, though.

I like the little extra set of arms you gave him.

Had to go back and look again to see them. Great job overall you have talent. Ever thought
about looking at grasshopper's legs for the lower limbs. Bending them back the other way maybe
an intereasting look.

Seconded. I don't know why, but those legs just don't sit right with me. They remind me more of bird legs than that of an insect.

I love the detail on his drill-arms though.

A pretty nice redesign, but the legs look almost too skinny for the kaiju. Besides that, quite a swell job.

Radical redesign, Darkness! My only complaint is its rear. There should be a short tail. Other than that, it's epic.

Thanks everyone. I can understand why most everyone isn't a fan of the legs. I'd watched The Fly recently, and the legs of the fly creature at the end had some influence on the final look. Now when it comes to the lack of a tail, KaneLocke got that on the mark. I was trying to incorporate more insect like features. You cannot really see it well, but I gave him a stinger instead of a tail.

Looking at it a second time here's what I'd do:

- shrink the horn
- tweak the wings
- add a tail (it makes Megalon special)
- take some clutter off the arms/drills (make em look like they can clamp together)
- fix the legs

But I really dig the rest, especially those little insect arms! I don't know why. The head/face and torso look great.

Awesome design. Hell, I'd say I like this more than the original one. Megalon looks like he's about to skreeonk some people up.
But I, that am not shaped for sportive tricks
Nor made to court an amorous looking-glass;
I, that am rudely stamped, and want love's majesty
To strut before a wanton ambling nymph.

If Megalon had been created in the Millennium era...

This is what we get. A super "ready to kick some kaiju butt" beetle creature of awesome! The legs are livable, so I don't care. But everything else is FREAKING epic. Awesome redesign!
