The Official Movie Score Thread (TV, Video Games etc)

Postby tokyostateofmind » Sat Jul 24, 2010 1:32 pm

Started a thread to talk about the wonderful world of music For Toho Related check the general Toho section. I don't think we have to limit to just Movie scores, with TV and Video Games etc..). Discuss away...

Currently the Inception score is really getting a hold on me. Saw the movie (IMAX) and was slightly confused but the Zimmer score really impressed me (maybe because it was blasting in my ears and the bass was shaking me silly), but still it was really good. Any Zimmer score really does it for me, a real big fan. What about you guys?

Some stuff from Pirates of the Caribbean, most Star Wars music, and the main theme to The Dark Knight. Can't really think of any other good music scores outside Toho.

Besides the main theme by Klaus Badelt from the first POTC movie, I really love the cues Davy Jones and The Kraken from Pirates of the Caribbean. I can listen to them anyday. Davy Jones emotion fuels through the melody. The Kraken attack is pure epicness.

Hans Zimmer is just a god. His work in the PotC movies (particularly DMC) and Gladiator is basically the best that could ever happen.

I enjoy Hans Zimmer but his stuff has started to blend together. His earlier work is far superior to his current, but I still love his Inception score.

John Williams is a composer that I love, but tire of hearing.

My current up and coming composer is Michael Giacchino. His stuff has been great across the board. I have never heard a television series with a better soundtrack then LOST, and his work on Star Trek and Up was phenomenal.

Exspecially the cue from Cloverfield. But yes. Inception is different, i also love the earlier stuff. Also like the Sherlock Holmes score as well. Gladiator's score is fantastic. The Battle is my favorite cue, but i forgot the other cue, but its very haunting. Its very well executed.

Howard Shore is great. The Fly is my favourite film score ever.
