You might want to try reading past the first sentence of his post, since he does give evidence and reasoning for why they're not.

Also, the "there's no specific evidence to say they're not connected, so that means they ARE connected!" is a mentality that really needs to die. Just because they're monster movies made by the same company doesn't mean they're connected.

I don't see why people make such a damn fuss out of continuity in the first place. Even if Mothra is in the Showa series continuity, though I know it's not, it doesn't change things THAT much.

It'd be different if Mothra died, and reappeared with no explanation and a completely different look.

no, the "there's no specific evidence to say they're connected, so that means they AREN'T connected!" is a mentality that really needs to die. :D

I could argue this all day, but It's really for the viewer to decide.

The Ice age and World War 2 have no characters in common, yet they took place in the same universe.

So you are saying that Dr. Grant probably knew all about the fight between Gamera and Barugon? In fact he must have studied it in college even, right?

Again, why is it such a big bloody deal?

No, the films aren't connected. But is it really that big an issue if one or two people does connect them?

You cannot have a conversation with someone about the merits, pros/cons, distinct tropes, characterization, and themes of a franchise if they think that they're all connected into one big happy love-pile of connected continuity. There's no way to discuss the continuity of the Showa series with someone who honestly and genuinely considers the Heisei era to be relevant or important to it. It would be like trying to discuss DC continuity with someone who thinks that the Fantastic Four, Avengers, and the X-men are in that universe because They're all comicbooks!

I don't care (and I'm sure no one else does) if someone likes throwing around the idea in their head of trying to figure how the Showa/Heisei era (same with DC/Marvel) can be all the same thing. That even sounds like fun, but when it comes down to discussing the series with your peers who DON'T have the same ideas (even if they like the idea!) and prefer to use the established "word of god" from Toho for how things work, your own personality interpretation does. not. matter.

JVM and TokyoVigilante said it best. Let's try to keep discussion of this topic to the Fanfic section from now on. What might be helpful is some list of which movies are officially considered "canon" with one another, as up until this point I had no idea that Mothra wasn't officially canon with the Godzilla series.

Aye to this. I love to toss around continuity all the time, but I still adhere to "Word of God".

Film worlds vs. real world is a reeeealy lame example to use.

There aare a dozen of ways to prove that there is no way of connecting some of the films, and almost all ways of connecting them are conjecture at best.

But, um... what does that have to do with Goro's size inconsistency again? :S

-_- I would suggest split bio and say Gorosaurus (1st Generation) and Gorosaurus (2nd Generation) since there lacks much proof to actually not consider these films canon to each other. Maybe there's two Goro's and we just don't know it. O_o

According to Word of God, there's an entire species of Gorosaurus running about.

Also several Varans IIRC
