Only the most serious for this movie.

I see nothing wrong with keeping it in Japan.

There isn't anything wrong, it's just unlikely. American movies always go to America.

Godzilla and Rodan should be brought to Planet X in energy bubbles.

What if it was set in Japan?

Postby phaz0ngoji » Sun Jan 30, 2011 1:07 pm

My brother and I were watching the 2005 remake of King Kong, and when it was over, my brother looked at me and said. "They should make Godzilla a period piece and set it in Japan."

I thought about that, and to be honest, it would be pretty awesome if they did it right. But that's the problem. DOING IT RIGHT. I have no clue as to how they would make it work, but it would definitely be a treat on the visual side if it was set in 50s Japan. If not Japan, the 50s in general.

No. This doesn't need to be a remake of Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

^Agreed. It should take place in North America. As long as New York isn't the center of attention, it will work out.

I wouldn't mind if part of the movie is set in Japan.
The majotity of it should be set in North America though.
I would love to see a retro Godzilla movie set in the 50's
with todays special effects capabilities. I doubt I will ever
see one though.

I think Godzilla should always be somewhat connected to Japan so some scenes would be cool. A flashback to the '50s in the begining would be neat.

I wouldn't have a problem if it were set in Japan in 1954... if it were a solo Godzilla movie.

This. It won't be the end of the world but I really want something other then NY for the 1000th time, no offense to fans who live in New York City. Maybe the first five minutes can open with an attack on Osaka or Tokyo or hell a montage of a world wide rampage across the globe attacking places like Moscow and Paris but for the rest of the film I'm pretty sure it's going to be mostly North America.

I honestly want to see this movie take place in locations all over the world. I find it unlikely that will happen. but if I was in charge, that's what I'd do.

^ Well you never know, even if it's not the whole film they might show a 5 minute montage of him all around the world destroying cities.

I would loooooooooove a Godzilla movie set in the sixties. That would be aces!

However, it's mostly a pipe-dream and I don't have any real hopes that that is the direction of this film.

And yes it should be set in Japan, probably contemporary.

Part of it's gonna be in Japan. Godzilla is a uniquely Japanese creation, and they're supposedly trying to be more faithful to the origins of the character. Ignoring Japan would piss off fans and be a total violation of the rules they've already lay down for themselves.
