I'm still pretty optimistic. The thing is that we still just plain don't know much about the project. I don't know how to interpret the writer changes, but it's good that there's still work being done.
Now it's dark...

I want to know why the script keeps getting dumped and who puts their foot down to say it is not ready?

Interesting how people uber-interpret news. There was no word on the the actual script being dumped at all. The new witer may just simply edit Goyer's script (hopefully for the better). Everything other than Borenstein replacing Goyer is 100% UNKNOWN atm.

It'd be nice if people just figured it could go either way rather than assume it's all going downhill with each little piece of info we get.

The problem is every little piece of info that LP has released just leaves everyone more uncertain rather than excited. First we get the long over due announcement that Gareth Edwars would be directing the film back in January. Then we get the news of 3 different writers like 4 months apart from each other. Fact is we have nothing solid to go on other than that dated Brian Rodgers interview which most likely is no longer valid to what the planning board is looking like now. A lot of us including myself has lost interest in the hype that LP sparked back @ comic con 2010. I don't know about the rest of you but I was already geared for a Godzilla comeback in 2012. Now we have no release date, not a peep of info outside who is directing and who is writing. So yeah I'm let down by that fact. If LP had their shyt together and wanted to do something successful with the franchise I don't see why the development is going through so much turmoil?

I think it probably amounts to Goyer doing the basic story/outline and this Borenstein doing the script/screenplay. It happens...

To be fair, I can except the long delay in finding Gareth Edwards because he isn't a familiar or popular choice an finding a director unlike Micheal Bay who focuses mostly on action an not story or Roland Emmerich who would probably want to portray Godzilla there way instead of the studio or Toho's way.

As for the hype, Godzilla's hype would have been drowned out anyways. I know fan's will dislike this statement but if Legendary was to release Godzilla in 2012 as Originally planned it would be down with (Ghost-Rider: Spirit of Vengence). Sure it's fan-base will see it an maybe a few other's out of curiousity but otherwise the major sequels to huge franchises already established will be the major money-makers an Godzilla does not apply to any of those.

Also don't forget hype of the first American-G-film started in 94, but had several delays an changes of directors an screen writer's even though hype died down for a little once the trailer's start emerging the hype will picked right back up. The same will happen with this film, I'm sure Legendary knows this just as well so there not concerned.

I'd say Legendary does have there shit together personally, they know what they (an Toho) want from this Godzilla film an aren't excepting anything less which i believe to be a good thing. I wouldn't mind if they went threw 2 more writer's as long as the final product lives up to be great. Also they do want to do something successful with this franchise which is why they are being so cautious in not pulling another Tri-Star, Godzilla is a film that can easily an i mean very easily take a turn for the worse, appreciate the fact that this studio is trying an taking all available steps to avoid making that mistake.

I can't say that Toho having so much control behind this is fully a good thing. Any decent director will know how to respect the source material, and if the director isn;t decent the film will suck regardless of how much Toho controls it. If anything Toho breathing down the director's back will hurt the film, like with GMK. Set some regulations, but give the dirctor freedom to play with the mythos.

Your point?

Again, the quality of that film is all a matter of opinion, I liked it. You don't have too.

I was jsut pointing out to HS when he said those 2 movies are terrible, that that is only his opinion.

I get what you are saying but can you blame them after what happened with Tri-Star? Last time Toho gave rules and they were completely ignored. This time Toho is enforcing them and using Banno as a watch dog to give them constant updates so they can change anything they disagree with before it's too late. It does slow down production, it does cause a lot of stress but if it means preventing someone from pulling a similar stunt that D&E pulled and giving us a Godzilla film that actually looks, feels and acts like Godzilla then I say the wait and stress will be worth it in the end. Eventually.

anyone else find it really weird that Toho flat out told Banno he would never work on a Godzilla movie ever again, yet they trusted him as the watchdog over the biggest coin flip they do?

Why? He doesn't get any say in what happens, just report all changes in the plan. They only threat he could pose is if he decides to not report shit which come on, you know he will continue to just report stuff since this is the closest he get's to work with a G project.

Those movies where not very good in a critical point of view. I didn't mind The Flintstones but the movie went through so many drafts until the movie was finally release in 1994. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was in development hell since the early 90's and the film was critically panned with a 17% on Rotten Tomatoes, the whole movie was a total train wreck. Alan Moore hated it, both Stephen Norrington and Sean Connery stop working in the film industry after this film.

That was a long time ago and it was the decision of Tomoyuki Tanaka. Toho isn't one to uphold the unofficially sanctioned grudge of a deceased producer, especially when there's money to be made.
