I like Christian Bale, but he'd have to stand on a crate of acting books to kiss Bill Murray's ass.

Seriously, though. Murray can give a killer dramatic performance, or be the comically sardonic guy who plays the Ian Malcom-type character razzing the ineffective military as they launch yet another plan that's doomed to failure in the face of the G-man.

Sounds awesome to me.

John Krasinski of Office fame would make a great American reporter in Japan. I think he's a great actor, and would love to see him in bigger things like this.

As an Office fan as well as a Godzilla fan, I agree with this.

Another actor I'd like to see is Ed Norton, but I suppose with as long as this thread is, someone probably mentioned him already.

Come to think of it...I'd really like to see the Steve Martin character brought back. Say what you want about Americanization, but Raymond Burr talking into that tape recorder made for some cool dramatic dialog, and his status as a journalist made the somber one-liners seem understandable, not overly cheesy as they would have been coming from another kind of character.

"This is it George...Steve Martin signing off from Tokyo, Japan."

I second Bill Murray...as Steve Martin (Lost in Translation meets Groundhog Day meets Godzilla 54. Ohhhh yeaaaahhh). His dry humor would contrast nicely with the ridiculous scale of a Godzilla movie. I want this movie to be fun. I don't think you can Chris Nolan-ize the Godzilla franchise.

That being said, I'm pretty sure Gareth Edwards is gonna try to make this a more serious piece. I wish him luck.
