Godzilla is sci-fi. Besides, I don't think people are gonna decide whether to go or not based on the human story. It's a movie about a giant monster, Godzilla, the giant monster. That's what will draw in people or make them avoid it.

Usually does, I believe.

Better actors just add marque value. Getting a newbie and teachign him to say it right, can increase the movie value for years to come.

What? Do you have any idea how filmmaking works? You can't just "teach" someone to act on the fly. Competent acting (which is something you need if you want this film to be successful or to be even taken seriously) requires a natural talent more then just 'saying it right'.

Buddy, having fresh faces means jack in Hollywood these days. You can't just tell someone to say something like 'this', the actor has to be convincing, or else their effect on the audience is dropped. We want good characters from this movie after the never ending wave of bland characters supplied by Toho since basically the Heisei era began excluding Akane, General Aso (Thank you, MM), Gondo, Gordon, Katagiri, Shinoda, The Controller, and Yuki (heh, unintentional alphabetical order). The only way you can have good characters is to have good actors. And which do you think is the better actor: the freshman or the seasoned veteran?

Gondo? The freaking bazooka dude? He was cool, sure... But he was more or less a filler character...
And where is General F'n Aso? And Yuri?

And Akane was annoying.

Knew I forgot someone... And would you kick me in the teeth if I said I found Yuri to be annoying and found Akane to be much more likeable character?

Nope. So long as we both agree General Aso is the freaking man and Miki is a whiny bitch.

Inferno Rodan wrote:Yeah, because the Godzilla series REALLY needs whiny teenage mecha pilots that are completely unlikable. If anything, the type of pilot seen in NGE is the WORST type.

No, the worst type of pilot is a completely one-dimensional action hero with no personal issues, no personality, and no flaws or depth of character whatsoever - the opposite of two of the pilots in NGE (not sure about Rei, really). In any case, the NGE line was purely me citing an example of mecha pilots done right (in my opinion, of course), not me saying that they needed a character like Shinji Ikari should LP ever go the "good guy" Mechagodzilla route in the same manner Toho did. As I said, I'd rather not see mecha pilots at all.

Since we're talking Mecha pilots...

How about we get a character that has NO moral inhibitions against what he does. Someone who enjoys the job without it being personal.

We need Duo Maxwell to pilot the next Mechagodzilla.

^ I actually like that idea. And have the mecha be the main villain.

Am I the only one who would like the set up to the KWC Mechagodzilla (Heisei) vs. Moguera match? Terrorists hijack a mecha and use it to attack a major city?

This.
Godzilla NEEDS a Captain Ahab of sorts. Godzilla does NOT need some whiny little bitches and pricks that don't think Godzilla should be killed/destroyed and hate their job. I HATED that about Miki. And really... the Evangelion pilots got to be the worst "examples" of good pilots I've seen. Seriously, go with Roger Smith from Big O. He was f'n badass.

I just meant that with the right makeup, and the right background feeling, acting can be done right no matter who it is.

LIE. Not everybody can act. I don't know where you got that idea, but some (maybe even MOST) people can NOT act just because you tell them how to say something or how to present themself. It takes YEARS of practice to become a proficient actor/actress. Makeup and 'background feeling' (set?) do not make the actor good. It might make for a pretty picture, but that's about it.

What about intelligent giant robots?

To be honest, I agree though. No robots are needed in this reboot. I want to keep the monsters as organic as possible, that may be what sets this film apart.

The closest thing I want to see to a mecha would be some kind of super weapon, and even then it would have to be done right. A Bolo-esque giant tank could be cool.

As for characters, I think a proper mix of scientists and military officers is the way to go. Yuppies and escapees from the CW need not apply, though I thinks that's obvious. :P Maybe have a sub-plot involving a squad of marines trapped on the ground when Godzilla invades the city. Having a scene in which a scientist notes how Godzilla breaks pretty much all the laws of biology/anatomy/physics and then proceeding to have a nervous breakdown because "COULD NOT EXIST! AARGGGGH!!" could be funny.

I think its kinda pointless to hope against someone like MechaGodzilla if this turns into any type of series, which I am hoping it will. Not saying he'll be in the first movie... but I'd say he's a good runner up for movie 2.
