I don't believe it's necessary. Don't most people have a rough idea of who Godzilla is?

I personally think we need an origin that goes into detail at least a little bit. If only to give Godzilla character development. I don't want him to be used as a plot device with the only character development being on the humans. And I REALLY don't want them to focus a lot on the origin of Godzilla's monster foe. Contrary to what you all may believe, most people don't have a clear idea of how Godzilla came to be. I've talked to plenty of my friends and family. With the exception of 3 or 4, none of them know his origin in the least. They know that he is a big dinosaur that breathes fire and stomps cities. WE may know Godzilla's origin, that isn't true for the majority of people out there.

Pretty much everyone knows Godzilla is a giant, radioactive dinosaur. Even if they don't, there is absolutely no need to spend more than a couple minutes on his origin, because it's not complex enough to warrant any more than that. I think the way the origin was handled in The Incredible Hulk is a perfect example of how it should be done. Hell, the way his origin was done in GINO was actually one of the few things the movie did well. Going more in depth than that would be pointless and would take away from the action that EVERYONE will be going to this movie to see.

That just seems like it takes away from character development. GINO used Godzilla as a mere plot device and elaborated in no way on his story.

Whatever it is it should involve time travel.

Pffft, who cares about some stupid overgrown pest when you can focus on the sizzling onscreen romance of Audrey Timmonds and Nick Tat...Tato...the Worm Guy? Oh those two, so wacky and zany! Don't you just love them? Their wacky hijinks just light up the screen, and even though their relationship had its ups and downs, was it really ever in doubt that these two star crossed lovers would make it in the end?

Poking fun at GINO's shitty love story aside, I think doing a shortened origin 'story' has its advantages and if done well enough, could work.

There's only one Godzilla movie in the entire series that goes into ANY depth on Godzilla's "story".

Because all of those are a continuation of the original. They're all sequels. This is not.

Not even the original goes into any depth on Godzilla's "story".

And no, they aren't all sequels to the original movie.

They're all a continuation of the original, with the exception of AMA. They may not all be direct sequels but they do go back to the original in some way.

No, they are not. G'98, G2K, and GFW have no connection whatsoever to the original.

Instead of a sadistic child murderer he should be a pedophile who lives in a basement.

GFW does, as the year 1954 is mentioned in the prologue. Regardless, Godzilla's origin can be pretty much adressed in a line of dialogue that lasts 10 seconds.

I think I would like to have Odo Island touched upon a little bit.
If they do have that as his origin...

Does not mean it is a direct sequel to the movie, as the events that occurred in 1954 are never elaborated on. It is also never stated in GFW that the "first" Gojira died.

So, no. Mentioning the year of his creation is more of a nod to the film than making it a sequel.

While it's doesn't quite follow Gojira's storyline like GMK or Godzilla Raids Again, there is no in-universe evidence that the films are unrelated. Regardless, Godzilla Final Wars isn't a film that deserves a true serious analysis.

That would just confuse the general US who is for the most part is unaware of the Heisei or later films. Hell a lot of them still think Godzilla vs Megalon is the last film.

A) That's assuming that this film takes place in the Heisei universe.

B) Film Festivals don't give enough exposure to the masses for the majority of the audience to understand what would be going on.
