Soundtrack Speculation (Composer, Songs, Godzilla Theme)

For the discussion of the upcoming Godzilla film by Legendary Pictures.

I would like a classic orchestral soundtrack. I think John Williams would be awesome but also Michael Giachinno(sp?) could be great. If I'm not mistaken he did the song "roar" for Cloverfield which had that classic Kaiju sound to it. He definitely did Star Trek which was an awesome soundtrack. But I think the classic Godzilla theme is a must. Even if it's just for the credits is fine but it would be awesome for him to rise out of the water for the first time with his theme playing.

Hans Zimmer for the score. Can't get the guy's pieces out of my head, they're ear worms!

BOC's Godzilla for the ending credits. Preferebly the version that was played every so once in a while during the daikaiju marathons on TNT's Monstervision.

LP would be wise to go after Hans Zimmer

After seeing inception... :dizzy: :huge: ... yeah I'd say he's best choice by far.

While I find Hans Zimmers scores to be kinda' on the dullish side, his tendency to use booming bass (IE: Inception trailer) is to appropriate for Godzilla not to use.

Craig Armstrong. He did the Incredible Hulk and I wouldn't mind seeing some of the stuff he used there (IE: an Organ in an old school horror movie fashion).

I really hope that work a few of the classic themes in, even if disguised considerably.

Good call, I love his Incredible Hulk soundtrack as well. The Hulk theme was good, but it was really his music for the final battle which is simply outstanding. Great stuff, and one of the my favorite scores.

I think any of the big names of today would be a good choice: John Williams, James Horner, Hans Zimmer, James Newton Howard, Alan Silvestri, Christopher Young, John Powell, Howard Shore, Michael Giacchino or even Danny Elfman.

Personally, I'd like to see Aaron Zigman doing the score. He's done some very nice scores, like The Notebook, Bridge to Terabithia and Flash of Genius. His work on BTT is especially memorable, and he managed to compose a few good action-oriented cues for it too.

I like Hans Zimmer, personally. He does a lot of really powerful scores, but he's got a lot of diversity, too. I'll be honest though, I don't pay much attention to whom gets the credit for what scores.

And I said it before. If the soundtrack doesn't include Blue Oyster Cult's Godzilla in SOME way... it is made of fail.

For Hollywood composers, I could see Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman, and Michael Giacchino would be pretty decent, but, as I said for the directors in another thread, I think it would be best to bring in some one from Japan who is familiar with the genre.

Composers in Mind:

1. Shiro Sagisu.
-His work in the Neon Genesis Evangelion series makes him the most obvious choice. His ability to capture every emotion in music and the grand scale of his subject matter would make him the best Non-Ifukube Godzilla composer, so much that he is the only one who can possibly be EQUAL to the Godzilla Maestro.

2. Kow Otani.
-If Shusuke Kaneko's Gamera trilogy and GMK soundtracks weren't enough (and as anyone will tell you, they were!), Kow Otani also did music for the hit video game "Shadow of the Colossus" and some music for Classic Media's Godzilla Documentary.
Next to Shiro, Kow Otani is the next most obvious choice.

3. Nobuo Uematsu.
-Although more popular for his work in the Final Fantasy series and Super Smash Brothers Brawl, who can deny that he has the talent to make an epic score suitable for Godzilla?

4. The Composers from the God of War Video Games.
-I hope I do not have to explain why. If you don't know about the music from God of War, you can find videos on Youtube with some of those songs.

And thats all I can think about on the top of my head.

I doubt we will get anyone from Japan to do the score for the movie. And I think Craig Armstrong will be perfect for this movie. I forgot how epic the score in the movie was.

I agree with you. Craig Armstrong would be a good choice too. I absolutely loved his score in Love Actually.

If there is one thing it must have for the final act of the film it's a dramatic choir.

I still think Giacchino would be the best choice, though I could see James Newton Howard also doing a good job.

What about Brian Tyler (AVPR, Rambo, Dragon Ball Evolution, and Skyline)?

None of those scores really struck me, guess we'll see how he does with Skyline.
