How? It wouldn't piss me off. They can put Japan in it if they want, or they can set the film somewhere else. It wouldn't bug me in the least. As long as they get GODZILLA right, I don't care where it's at. And honestly, Godzilla has smashed Japan enough as it is. It's an American film and it needs to be done in a setting that is familiar to American people. Godzilla just needs a nuclear origin. His origin doesn't have to revolve around the bomb dropped on Japan by America. It could be any number of things.

Banno's a producer of the movie, so he probably does want it in Japan.

And we have a Brit for our director, doesn't mean it's being set in skreeonk Jolly Ole England.

Just because Banno's attached doesn't mean he wants the film set in Japan. For Tanaka's sake, the man wanted '3D to the MAX!' to be set in Vegas! VEGAS.

Dammit people. You're all looking too much into Banno's involvement. Chances are he doesn't have THAT MUCH SAY in the movie at this point.

Yes Chris, TOHO, not Banno. Maybe if he just relays what Toho wants then LP will do something to meet their requirements. But they aren't catering to Banno himself.

I'd imagine Banno was just absorbed/bought out and is there out of a contract technicality. No point in having two 3-D Godzilla projects in the works.

Baby punching is the only sport I've ever enjoyed playing. I don't have to be angry to do that. ;)

San Fran would be a great location, plus I'd love to see him decimate the Golden Gate bridge. That way it would show the real Godzilla can destroy it and not be stuck in it. Well besides beating that dead horse though, the movie better have a way showing scale of Godzilla and everyone else. Monsters Vs Aliens did a great job of accomplishing that in the San Francisco scene.

Ah God, it'd be like the American remake of One Missed Call. The writers would need to shove as much Japanese (American ideal) culture down our throats before we can get on with the three American actors along with the American army defeating Godzilla for the Japanese. Aaand American audiences would still feel disconnected seeing another country being demolished. We don't care, we see it all the time. Unless it's destruction on American soil, no one gives a skreeonk.

Exactly. That's where Cloverfield succeeded as a movie. It was a clear connection to the horrors of the unknown of 9/11 much like Gojira was an allegory to the nuclear bombings of Japan. American's won't see the connection if he attacked in a foreign land. Attacking the U.S. would make the events closer to home.

Oh please, I don't believe this for a second. A Godzilla movie doesn't need to have a connection to anything. It just needs to be fun. And it can be fun no matter where it's set.

Hurricane Katrina.

And I think the movie does need some sort of connection. Nothing too preachy, but the best Godzilla movies have something like that. Saying it's not needed is kind of lazy.

That's assuming you believe Gojira, Godzila 1985 and GMK are the best movies, right?

There are more Godzilla movies with messages in them. They're not life changing or anything, but they're there. Godzilla movies should be entertaining and socially relevant. It just shouldn't feel tacked on like a Showa Gamera film or a Heisei Godzilla movie.

What about Prudhoe Bay, Outer Banks, Boston as 1st recognised landfall onto NY or other city down Atlantic coast for finale.
