Human cast speculation (occupation, returning characters)

For the discussion of the upcoming Godzilla film by Legendary Pictures.

As long as they don't find Godzilla preganant again it will be good. I mean I liked the main guy in Godzilla98 but the whole plot twist (all ready stated, it hurts just to mention it) ruined it. I would probably guess though that a scientist is going to be the main character, just in my head of all story directions.

I'm all for showing that Godzilla (and maybe the other any other kaiju) are victims of the nuclear age just as much as people are victims of their attacks but for the love of god please don't make it whiny bicthy like Miki.

It's hard to make me feel even remotely bad for anyone when someone like Miki is going on about it every five seconds. At least Gojira can pull it off without sounding like it's trying to win a Bawing contest.

My main issue with Miki, personally, was the complete inability to relate to her and her general unreasonableness when it came to the government handling Godzilla. He's a menace to the world and should be destroyed. It's like she expects everyone to have psychic powers and see things from her "higher perspective".

Anyways, I've always loved the reporter archetype this Genre throws around. I'd love for a Yuri or a Steve Martin to be our protagonist.

Yeah I thought that too. I was always like "Yeah, go talk to the family members that Godzilla had killed and see if THEY feel he's 'misunderstood' "

The main character should be Anderson Cooper. I would pay money to see that, I would.

A male reporter, his spunky lady photographer and their absent minded scientist friend. I think military type characters should be more in the background.

A reporter or a cryptozoologist.

I've always felt that a cryptozoology approach would be interesting. I mean, it totally makes sense when you think about it, especially when you consider other cryptids like the Loch Ness Monster being giant dinosaurian creatures. Needless to say, this is probably not the direction they'll go with it. It'd be awesome, but probably not mainstream enough.

I wouldn't mind having the main character be a professor type or a reporter. in fact, I'm sorta hoping Legendary's Godzilla has a 'Return of Godzilla' vibe to it. A stressed but headstrong world leader dealing with the crisis with a good head on his shoulders, a reporter who makes the discovery and cares only about the big scoop then redeeming himself thru the movie, a fisherman-type character who's friends were killed by the monster and vows revenge to destroy it, a professor who knows Godzilla cannot be killed but only incapacitated etc...

Except that a cryptozoologist would only really be useful for half the film. Once Godzilla shows up and starts tearing the world apart, a cyptozoologist wouldnt be that imperative anymore.

What if he is used not only for G but but also as a researcher on the opponent monsters. If they show up in the middle of the movie he has something to do.
I could see them using a cryptozoologist and others as part of a disaster think tank for the government. Where they plan ways to handle X-filish situations.

Well, reporters and photographers are pretty useless against a giant, radioactive dinosaur, but they seem popular.

A cryptozoologist would never be imperative. Since cryptozoology is a self inflicted label with no scientific backup, the writers could only make the character look like a wack-job or at best, a eccentric sudo-scientist.

I don't feel like watching a Jeff Goldblum-esque person as a lead character.

C'mon, it wouldn't be THAT hard to have a genuine scientist character take a mild interest in (dis)crediting cryptozoology and then studying Godzilla once he's faced with reality...

Not expecting anything like it, and not sure I'd want to see it, but it's a possibility.

I'm sure it's possible to make a cryotozoologist a perfectly sane person. There are several respected zoologist who have studied or looked into cryptids.

It's what people expect to see. Archetypes are what Hollywood and consumers strive on.
