GVK: TNE is a modern day 70s Showa Godzilla movie. Being a massive budget modern blockbuster CGI film instead of traditional 70s tokusatsu techniques doesn't change that.
Monsterverse is not similar to either MCU nor Bayformers just because all three are big budget CGI blockbuster franchises.

Sorry, but I don't see Peter Travers obsessively watching previous Monsterverse movies to see if anything contradicts Cloverfield.darthzilla99 wrote:The movie critics would eat it up and overblow it as a huge continuity plot hole. Here's the thing. J.J Abrams isn't a bad director per-se. But he's not a good FRANCHISE director. Most of what he starts he never finishes, the exception is this SW sequel trilogy.

If you're up to date with the Cloverfield franchise, the latest movie was about a particle accelerator and parallel universes.G2000 wrote:People keep saying things like this for kaiju films and I can't stand it._JNavs_ wrote:Clover has rec lol, maybe not much, but the recognition is there.
You could have New York have its first encounter with a "monster" in Cloverfield *2008*, and the following nuke that consumes the city could be covered up by Monarch.Thinking they're in the clear (especially since Monarch has known about monsters since before Kong in the 70s) until 2014 when Godzilla and the MUTOs bust out.
You can't just cover up a giant monster attacking a major city. Not in 1954, not in 2008, definitely not today. There's far too many eyewitnesses - civilians, emergency services, military personnel, government figures, etc.. Far too many media outlets covering the rampage. Too much damage and lasting evidence like footprints and possibly shed skin or blood or what have you that can't just be hidden. Too many pictures and videos, especially by the time 2008 rolls around (hell, Cloverfield is literally about a random civvie with a handheld camera recording the monster's attack).
And you definitely can't cover up a city getting nuked. At best you could obfuscate the circumstances surrounding why and how the city got nuked, but it's impossible to just up and convince everyone it never happened.

Lazy as hell desu, if they're going to do universe-jumping bullshit they should stick with a Pacific Rim crossoverDestoroyah of Worlds wrote:If you're up to date with the Cloverfield franchise, the latest movie was about a particle accelerator and parallel universes.
Once they jumped back to their old universe an adult Cloverfield monster appeared.
That opens the door for Clover existing in all sorts of parallel universes.

Playing Devil's advocate here.
Clover appears in the MV due to the events of Paradox. Monarch doesn't know where it came from and why they have never seen this Titan before. Godzilla shows and fights Clover.
Done deal.

Just a friendly reminder that the thread is clickbaity. Nothing remotely is said that would suggest Cloverfield somehow crossing over anyways.

If he were to be connected I'd really only dig it if Monarch was heavily involved in the sequel, maybe some name drops and cameos in the background.
But nothing like Godzilla fighting Clover for the whole film, it'd be a cool Woah-Shocker moment in a Godzilla 3 or something, but nothing like a "Godzilla vs Cloverfield: 2020"

The title is no less clickbaity then when we wondered if Kong would cross over in 2014 at Skull Island got announced.LSD Jellyfish wrote:Just a friendly reminder that the thread is clickbaity. Nothing remotely is said that would suggest Cloverfield somehow crossing over anyways.

Considering Godzilla was inspired by Kong, Kong appeared and was in Toho films and already crossed over, and It was confirmed to be a film by LEGENDARY, the two scenarios were completely different.miguelnuva wrote:The title is no less clickbaity then when we wondered if Kong would cross over in 2014 at Skull Island got announced.LSD Jellyfish wrote:Just a friendly reminder that the thread is clickbaity. If it was,”Legendary buys Cloverfield” this would be a completely different.

Considering Legendary and WB are partners though as far as speculation were closer now to Clover in the MV than we were when Bad Robot was at paramount. Even if the 1% chance became a 2% chance.LSD Jellyfish wrote:Considering Godzilla was inspired by Kong, Kong appeared and was in Toho films and already crossed over, and It was confirmed to be a film by LEGENDARY, the two scenarios were completely different.miguelnuva wrote:The title is no less clickbaity then when we wondered if Kong would cross over in 2014 at Skull Island got announced.LSD Jellyfish wrote:Just a friendly reminder that the thread is clickbaity. I don't think it will happen but as far as the topic I wouldn't say clickbait. Seems like an honest question.

*raises hand*
Couldn't the continuity issue be solved by just rebooting Cloverfield? Reboots are what Hollywood does best these days, after all.

Just because the guy who produced the film signed an exclusive contract with another studio doesn’t mean that his existing film catalog suddenly transfers to another studio.

The deal came with all of his studio's film IPs. What's the chances Cloverfields on there? I'll give you a hint, he doesn't have a long list of personal IPs.king_ghidorah wrote:That’s not how this works. Added in 3 minutes 9 seconds:
I never understood the "But blank doesn't mean more $$$ so why would they ever even conceive of doing so?", because Hollywood isn't only filled with money hungry grubs as much as they make it out to seem, there are actual Creatives out there who try to get projects off the ground due to an appreciation for the content, and not just how many bucks end up in their pockets.

Bad Robot also was involved in the latest Star Trek and Star Wars film so are you saying we can have a Star Wars/Trek film involving the MV now???_JNavs_ wrote:The deal came with all of his studio's film IPs. Your “creative” argument is empty. If anything. The more creative solution would be to create an entirely new IP or to do something original within the established MV.
Crossing over franchises that weren’t designed to go together is strictly a money based solution. The fans arent clamoring for this to happen by and large and even if they were the numbers aren’t there. The GA didn’t care about Rodan, KG and Mothra ...they’re sure as heck not going to care about a Creature from a one off film over 10 years ago. And fans couldn’t make GKOTM a hit so you need that GA appeal

They were involved but Star Trek and Star Wars are not the personal IPs of J.J. Nor have I made any mention that Clovie will indubitably be in the MV if he ended up in the deal.

So if Clovie wouldn’t be in the film then what would be the point in crossing over at all? Just a title?
So the benefits to this cross over would drop from nothing but for the hardcore fans to ....nothing.
