Kong is completely dead in China now. 168 will be its final rally there.

Agreed l hate the inflation argument became there are more factors then that going on with what a movie made at the time.Cookson wrote:I inflation is such a terrible comparison...
That's saying Kong Kong 2005 would make 292m today. Probably not happening.

The inflation argument can be disregarded if you inflate the budget as well.

I don't think budgets have anything to do with it anyway.Showa Gyaos wrote:The inflation argument can be disregarded if you inflate the budget as well.

Re: K:SI - Box Office Discussion
That's right. King Kong (2005) didn't have the benefit of an IMAX release and had a much smaller run in China. Ultimately King Kong (2005) was one of the top five highest grossing films of 2005 and was seen by a much bigger audience then Skull island. SI probably wont be a top ten highest grossing film by the end of the year. Right now its at #6 and the Summer movie season even hasn't gone into full swing yet let alone the late year releases in November and December.Tohosaurus wrote:KSI has that global market expansion plus the extra dimension people could purchase that has glasses
Also Cookson how do you know Jackson's film wouldn't hit $292 domestic today? Last year 9 movies made over $300 M

King Kong was the 5th highest grossing film of 2005 at $217 million and was one of the years biggest movies.

Yes, there's no way to know how Kong Kong would do if released today. I didn't say it couldn't.. I said probably not.
That's my point too... nobody knows how a film would do. This is any film too..., and why inflation talk is pointless.

When I was looking at the estimates for the weekend on Saturday, and they had Kong at #10! Why it dropped below Get Out and The Case For Christ is beyond me.

Get Out has been holding quite well. 170m looks to be where we're heading for KSI.

^ Yeah but Kong stayed ahead of Get Out for weeks. Why the sudden drop below it now?

Re: K:SI - Box Office Discussion
Because Kong has more competition from huge Hollyood movies. Movies like GO don't really compete with those.

Kong is at $552 M. I say a final tally of $560 M is in the cards.

YES! I honestly thought it was going to be close, but not be able to reach over 550 million. Glad I was wrong!

Even though it was seen by fewer people than King Kong (2005) and Godzilla (1998).
