@GodzillaFan1992: Synapsids still existed into the Triassic, so it's very possible an early ancestor of Godzilla's escaped the Permian-Triassic extinction.
Point taken there, but I'd still like to think that Godzilla is a Rausisuchian since they first appeared 250 million years ago, the time Godzilla was born, so perhaps his species were part of the Rauisuchian family and among the first ones to evolve.
I can see where you're coming from of course, seeing as the Permian-Triassic extinction was big (there's a reason it's other name is the great dying which you don't name anything unless it was big) and what's sort of a problem with both of our theories is the gills.
The gills are the same reason Steve Alten gave evolved Kronosaurus' gills in his book The Trench. :P

That and evolution has ways to having animals adapt, it's also called fiction for you.

Hum maybe a Rausisuchian with evolved hip joints, more evolve like a ornithiscian (Im tired probably didn't spell it rigth) dinosaur joints (Ej parasaurophus,)
Or....
HE migth not be reptilian in the clasic meaning.
what if godzilla desends from a group of anphibians that developed the same atributes as reptiles (convergent evolution, like pangolines, ant eater bears, armadillos, equidna's Diet and physical similarities).

I mean some Amphybians bacame reptiles, if goji ancesters migth do so too, but later in the time of earth.
we know he is at least 250 MY old, by that time there was allready reptiles in the earth, but what if an isolated group of amphybius creatures developed the characteristics of reptiles (Prety likely under the same echological presures that made real world amphs go reptile) hence why he still have gills, he is relativly a ''new'' species, portraying remaining parts of his past, while still in use (he lives under the sea, un like any know reptile we know so far).

Thats my take on this Godzilla's orign, or he could very well be a Rausisuchian.

But he is godzilla, I feel like giving him some interesting origin while still grounded with science. and somehow he is more a link betewen sea and land animals much like G54.

Opinions from the pepole that think he can't be a mere mundane reptile? do this seems more majestic to the monster king?

I know it's off-topic a tad, but I was a tiny bit annoyed in the movie when they flipped those lines. The trailer had Aaron saying "A monster" then Sally Hawkins said "No. A God."
But then the movie flips it so that Aaron is saying "A monster" AFTER she says "A God" which almost seems to poo-poo the idea of him being a living deity.

Anyway, I think Godzilla (and the MUTOs) are their own unique class. Humans have a need to categorize and classify things and these classifications get modified and change all the time. Because of his unique variety of characteristics, I think it's safe to make up a new thing just for him.

no IM GLAD they put it in that context and reworded the dialogue. Yes in the trailer it sounds cool, but in that scene it would've sounded really cheesy (inb4 "godzilla was ALWAYS cheesy"), no it wouldve just been bad choice in dialogue imo. I liked the subtlety they put it in the actual scene instead.

There's a very human aspect to every Godzilla, physical and otherwise, this one included. Based on that I would classify him as a Dinosauroid, even if that may not be a species.

I agree with this. We can find similarities between Godzilla and a large variety of prehistoric animals. But we'll never find a perfect fit. He's an original. Something all his own.

That is a good analysis. Would make sense that there could be different subspecies and families in the Godzilla family.

Since they are all contemporary animals, it's a good thing they don't all show up at the same time.We be mega screwed.

I have a headcanon regarding G98 and why the fisherman told Philippe Roaché he saw "Gojira...Gojira...Gojira..."
Godzilla (the proper one) exists, but most knowledge of him is kept within Japanese borders or as a UN secret. Therefore, the fisherman thought "Gojira" when his vessel was attacked by a giant creature in the ocean.

And no one caed about my really over thinking theory (mainly because I belive its hard to read)

SoG goji as Allocraneous? good one xD

Hell maybe Godzilla 98 (lets not debate the name in this topic shall we?) is like a false coral snake, you know maybe ''in-universe'' Godzilla (original) and G98 look very similar, so that way G98 scares away predator while growing up because, well who in the dam world wants to harm a Godzilla's offspring? (besides destroyah)

Yes I know.
Think about it asan allignated continuity with toho monsters in a same series, mimicing the monster king is a good idea isn't it?

Godzilla's closer to being a reptile than a platypus is to being a duck. I don't find it too hard to believe Godzilla's a reptile--or perhaps something similar to dinosaurs.
