It implies that the debut film leaves people wanting. Batman Begins looks to have been very well received. Godzilla 2014 was more Man of Steel than Batman Begins it seems.Godzilla165 wrote: ...Why exactly?

I mean wanting as in it wasn't the best start. But wording it that way makes it sound like I didn't like it, which would be untrue.Living Corpse wrote:Wanting more isn't a bad thing in of itself, look at Pacific Rim. The fact we wanted to see more of that world and learn more means we are open to a sequel.
Also I liked Batman Begins more than The Dark Knight. Should have saved Scarecrow and the cool, scary hallucinations for the last film.

That's hyperbole and you know it. Man of Steel was very badly received for getting Superman so utterly wrong. Godzilla has some flaws, but it gets Godzilla right. It feels like a Godzilla movie.Tohosaurus wrote:It implies that the debut film leaves people wanting. Batman Begins looks to have been very well received. Yeah, Godzilla totally represented the nuclear bomb's devestating power and mankind's self-destructive mindset turning the wrath of nature upon them for their humanitarian crimes. Oh wait... He's supposed to be the savior of the Earth who completely ignores humans and only destroys stuff because his massive size makes it inevitable. ^Another problem I have with the movie. Changing the origin just to have a new one, while ignoring the message of the 1954 film that they claimed to have done perfectly.

It's different, but it's not as interesting. I hope he does something other than just awaken and fight the monsters, otherwise he's practically just a walking plot device to fix the problem.Godzilla 1995 wrote:You all are forgetting the character's versatility. Godzilla has had multiple personalities over the years, and this is simply a different take on an age-old character. He's been good, evil, anti-hero,, etc. Now he's just a natural animal, which is different from what we've seen before.

I felt Godzilla had no character and therefore I had no engagement with him until the eyeball part with AT-J - and by that time it was too late in the film. Godzilla isn't just an animal and that's a major flaw with this move for me. Having him ignore humanity lessened his impact - visually it was great but more acknowledgement of his surroundings would have been a big boost for me.

Man of Steel was also badly received for being a poorly-written mess of a movie.Fighing On Fuji wrote:That's hyperbole and you know it. And I like G'14, but I'm not going to claim that the writing was anything more than "passable" at best.
In my opinion, of course.

Of all the criticisms one can make that is one of the weakest. The nuclear metaphor has been there, what 2, 3 times in the franchise? Otherwise he's been something else. You can say that this version was rather bland (and to point I can agree) or even that the change of origin was too much (I hope they show in future films that the bombings mutated him further, thus putting him in a similar place as the Heisei Godzilla), but to try and say that this isn't Godzilla is, frankly, ludicrous.Mr. Xeno wrote:Yeah, Godzilla totally represented the nuclear bomb's devestating power and mankind's self-destructive mindset turning the wrath of nature upon them for their humanitarian crimes. Kinda unfortunate how that worked out with both PR and Godzilla. Weirdly, Godzilla isn't that long for a contemporary big budget movie though I think they could've had greater exposition. Maybe one reason a solo Godzilla movie could've been better without adding 15-20 minutes to the running time.HannibalBarca wrote:And I like G'14, but I'm not going to claim that the writing was anything more than "passable" at best.
Man of Steel was not that badly received. Green Lantern was. A 56% RT score is not very good, but we're not talking Transformers 2 scores here. And a 7.3 on IMDb is pretty decent as well (above almost all Godzilla movies including Legendary's Godzilla, for what that's worth), or its A- CinemaScore. Man of Steel has its issues and plenty of detractors, but the comparison is solid IMO unless you look at the RT guideline alone. But that's a discussion for another thread. You're more than entitled to disagree.Fighing On Fuji wrote: That's hyperbole and you know it. Man of Steel was very badly received for getting Superman so utterly wrong. Honestly, given the way grade inflation has affected ALL big budget movies on rotten tomatoes nowadays, especially superhero movies, a 56% on RT for a Superman movie strikes me as pretty godawful, but that's just my take on it.
In my opinion, of course.

Anyway, I'm guessing 90%+ of people in this thread would be fine with MUTOs in the movie -as I would- if the focus was simply more on Godzilla. I think that's the central issue here that people have.

I most certainly would. Like I said earlier, have Godzilla awaken first, wreak havoc, then have the Mutos awaken due the Godzilla awakening.Tohosaurus wrote:HannibalBarca wrote:I PUT AN OPINION DISCLAIMER FEEL FREE TO IGNORE IT

I would've been happy if we'd just seen a bit more of him in the beginning, thrn gotten to see the whole Hawaii fight.

i actually hope the last film features "just" Godzilla. he came in with a bang, he should star on the way out without any issue, and if it hasta include a monster, let it be just ONE.
