I, personally, loved it.

Re: Expectations are everything
Except the people who hate it seem to have no viable reason for why. It's not that great a movie but it's far from terrible. I mean there's been 30 Godzilla movies, some good and others not so much. G14 just happens to fall right in between the two for me. There's obviously far FAR worse films out there. The film simply did not deliver on the things I wanted to see from it, or even some of the things they promised, and thus I was disappointed.

Eh, I can see why anyone would either, love, hate, enjoy, or be meh about this film.Tyrant_Lizard_King wrote:Except the people who hate it seem to have no viable reason for why. Not saying you couldn't hate it, just that the people who seem to never appear to give any viable reasons why they do.

Re: Expectations are everything
Why I love it:
- Absolutely breathtaking visual effects.
- Amazing final fight scene
- Great soundtrack
- Overall good acting; ATJ is a bit meh, sure, but he's not terrible.
- Interesting world that feels like it should be explored more (which is good because we're getting a sequel)
- The restraint in showing the monsters, while it may hurt the film a bit depending on how you feel about it, is a little refreshing in the age of constant explosions and action action action.
- One of the best Godzilla designs and beautiful designs for the MUTOs
- Not the strongest characters, but they're likable enough
I'd be interested in hearing other reasons why people love it, and reasons why people hate it.

Re: Expectations are everything
This is very on the nose, but from that statement, either A) you have done very little browsing in terms of reviews or only went to places like IMDB, or B) you're just being very ignorant. Simply looking on here will provide you with some negative reviews that aren't filled with trolling. I've made my case plenty of times as to why I feel the film was terrible. The main reasons were:Tyrant_Lizard_King wrote:Not saying you couldn't hate it, just that the people who seem to never appear to give any viable reasons why they do.
-Poorly constructed story
-Flat characters
-Failing to deliver on it's own promises, not just in terms of marketing vs. the actual movie, but by never providing any pay-off. The film is so focused on the build-up to the monsters through the eyes of humans that the film seems to think that it's scenes don't need climaxes. There's a huge difference between being conservative with your monster, and just being a plain cocktease.
Although it's VERY important to point out that #3 is more so a result of 1 and 2. The gaps between the monster parts are going to seem all that much more aggravating when the human stuff in between is so boring. That's where the movie truly fails for many of us. In fact, the best way to describe it is with this quote: "It just gets tiring looking at people we don't care about while the monsters we do scurry out of sight at every opportunity."
This obviously isn't an overly detailed review, but I've torn this movie apart too many times by now, and doing so is very tiring. I could dig my old review up if you're truly interested in why anyone would hate the movie.

Oh I agree with your views 100% but still don't think its a terrible movie per say. Like I said in another thread one of the biggest gripes for me is the film had a lot of great and interesting ideas but didn't do anything with them. Hopefully some of those things were in the film but were cut to quicken the pace or dumb it down for mainstream audiences and will be reinserted in a future directors cut.Mr. Xeno wrote:This is very on the nose, but from that statement, either A) you have done very little browsing in terms of reviews or only went to places like IMDB, or B) you're just being very ignorant. I have yet to meet someone who actually hates it, but i have met several who have said it's kinda boring and very disappointing. You can't really disagree with any of those considering how much hype the movie had and the tone the trailers provided which neither were met.
It's not a bad movie, but it's a pretty average one. The funny thing is it has ALL the elements for a great Godzilla movie and failed to deliver on most.
Imagine how much better then film would have been of Cranston character lived till right about the end, Monarch (or whatever) got exposed about there cover ups to the world, Showing the entire Hawaii fight (no matter how short), Giving us an actual military battle with Godzilla at the bridge, then actually TEASING us with the doors shutting... leading straight up to the climax only they didn't keep cutting away to the damn humans.
That would easily bring it up from a 6 to an 8 or even 8.5

I don't think anyone needs a "viable reason" to hate something unless he/she is trying to persuade you into hating it as well. Some people just dislike the film and others like to nit-pick the little stuff because it didn't go their way. Regardless, that's all completely irrelevant if you genuinely loved the movie anyways because I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that we'll all keep our own opinions despite the backlash we might get.

Re: Expectations are everything
If what I saw on the fighting scenes from Godzilla 2014 sences true, I hope this new series brings the same essence of the classic movies, but with something new that I think I realized seeing the new Godzilla. It loks like the new Godzilla has a new air of a "savage" berserker in combat, as if he already faced previously battles before facing the MUTOs.
I have expectations that old monsters can return, as famous adn infamous monsters, like the ones that were forgotten in the Showa Series, like Titanosaurus for example. I wish that those and other old and new monsters face or be allies (like Godzilla's "friends" in Shoa Series) with the new Godzilla. Would be awesome in my opinion to bring back from the past those famous essences adn emotions that marked the previously series, adn put then in the Legendary Series, with those new elemnts they sowed us in Godzilla 2014!
