So... "Monarch". Surely a reference to Godzilla being the king of the monsters, but whenever I hear it I think of a monarch butterfly and therefore Mothra. Can't help it.

I like those names, unless they're the names of something else I'm not aware of? And, M.U.T.O. stands for massive unidentified terrestrial organism. What if they call Anguirus a Muto in a future sequel, for example, since he technically fits the definition of one? We would need names for the Mutos in this film if that turns out to be the case.Smuggers wrote:Oh God, don't tell me everyone is going to start calling the Mutos this.Lenbo wrote:The title along the side of the poster reads "Kanira vs. Habura".

After seeing the film again today, the dragon head felt a lot less out-of-place for me. Maybe it wasn't a reference to anything, and was just shown to emphasize Chinatown's destruction?
Man, it's gonna be a looong wait for the DVD. I want dat director's commentary. Commentaries often point out Easter eggs and explain them.

Re: Godzilla: Easter Eggs/weird stuff in the movie/trailers
I wasn't thinking Ghidorah at all during the dragon head in Chinatown scene, until it was mentioned on these boards. My initial feeling during that scene was an analogy regarding Godzilla and beasts of lore. A way of affirming his god-like status and a break from the action that was basically telling me to wait a minute, he's gonna get back up and just beat the everlovin' shit outta Mr. and Missus Muto, just let it soak in and realize that this beast is beyond anything you can comprehend, try as you may. Now that Ghidorah has been linked to this scene as a possible Easter egg, I absolutely can see that as the case, but for me, my initial feeling during viewing heightened my enjoyment.

I never thought anything of that dragon head... I just assumed that scene was just showing us how the nest was going to blow up with the gasoline slowly filling up to that lit flame.

I don't see how though. I didn't see any kind of flame in the dragon's mouth either the second or third time I saw the film. It still doesn't say "King Ghidorah" to me, and the possible Manda reference (while certainly the most logical of the three) would be so oddly obscure that I just don't see it happening either.Living Corpse wrote:The dragon head was just a foreshadowing of the atomic breath, you see the atomic breath shortly after it.
I'm going with the opinion that it's not an Easter Egg at all, just a shot showing the gasoline fill the nest.

Has this been pointed out yet?
Supposedly one of the pictures hanging on the wall when Ford enters the nest is of Ishiro Honda.

i'd like to see something original redone in the next one. Ghidorah? meh. maybe. i'm kinda bored of him for now, though.

Maybe it wasn't the the dragon head at all, but the flamable liquid it was submerged into and was going to blow?

I didn't pay attention to the pictures when I saw it the first two times, but I'll be careful to look for it next time I go see it.

During the part when they are talking about Godzilla's backstory and the MUTO, Serizawa says it hatched like a butterfly or something like that. I may be looking too deep into this, but when I heard him say theta, I immediately thought of Mothra.
Also, during the part where Joe and Ford go back to their house to get the disks, my brother thought he saw Mothra written somewhere. I just smiled and thought he didn't see anything, but after reading this thread, I realize that he was right and I totally missed it.

He read the "MOTHRA" labels on the moth habitat. I believe it was 2 labels put together, one ending with MOTH, and the other starting with RA.
Also, I think most of us may have thought of Mothra when Serizawa said "hatched like a butterfly"

I definitely thought it, but I doubt it was an Easter Egg. Butterflies are simple the most commonly thought of thing that hatches out of a cocoon.

Anyone catch GMK Baron's roar just before Godzilla unleashed his atomic breath the first time?

So I looked for that pic of Honda. I'm pretty sure I saw it when Ford was about to leave through the door. The problem is it's a pretty quick shot. Looked like the pic from his wiki page.
Might have to wait for the home release to pause on it.

That wasn't water. It was gas. The dragon in the gas is a visual joke on the fact that the whole nest is about to burst into flames. Dragons breathe fire.20th Century Boy wrote:I doubt that was a reference to King Ghidorah, or a reference to anything. But the camera focused on it for way too long. It was a weird scene.Tek wrote:what was up with that king ghidorah-esque dragon head in the water... the scene where Ford is about to blow up the eggs? The camera panned on the dragon head for a good 2 seconds... couldn't make out the meaning of that one. It looked more Ghidorah than Godzilla IMO

Re: Godzilla: Easter Eggs/weird stuff in the movie/trailers
I know this is technically a double post, but it's also a new thing. Did anyone else get an E.T. vibe from Godzilla looking all ashy as he lays presumably dead? The first time I saw it, I thought of ET lying dead in the cooling unit with white flesh. And just like E.T., he woke up from this "death"
This could be a coincidence, but it would be worth pointing out in an interview with one of the filmmakers.
