Re: Godzilla: The Look
I see that the general consensus is that the T-shirt pic isn't the Godzilla that's going to be in the movie? Good, if that's true.
Way too much neck on that one. Head needs some work, too.
Honestly, I don't see why they really need a major re-model. Use the basic design, maybe augment some of his features, but keep the same shape. Even that CG Godzilla in the beginning of Always was MUCH better than the t-shirt pic.
Oh, and hello everyone, first post. Been reading here awhile, though.

I agree, but i believe the T-Shirt was just early promotion for movie, showing fan's it will respect the Japanese Godzilla with style with the blue atomic breath. Also i think it was a test to see fans reaction's much prior to the actual design being made to see if it was positive or negative. Majority did think it was positive an a step forward then the 98 Iguana. I do hope Legendary took the fan's opinion's on the face an neck to heart.. otherwise the body an spines look just fine.
I agree i Toho CGI Godzilla looked pretty damn good, it was a step in a different direction but it still respected the Godzilla appearance. Im hoping that is something along the lines of what Legendary has in store for there final design whenever it is actually released.

Well with what we saw with the Kraken in Clash of The Titans, and that gangley thing with the over bite in Cloverfield, What should we expect?

Matt Frank has a pretty good Godzilla design(non NEO) along with a good Angurius(also non NEO) You can check them out on his KaijuSamurai deviantart page,

Godzilla 2000's spines/fins were somewhat purple.Godzilla 1995 wrote:Living Corpse wrote:What if the red fins glow blue?
Talk about a sharp contrast.
That's too much of a contrast. No one would think that could work. Red and Blue make PURPLE.

Re: Godzilla: The Look
I liked the G2000 dorsal plates originally, nice departure from the maple leaf style, more aggressive. However I think I prefer a scaled down version, more like GvMG, still sharper than the old style but not sooooo big.
As for color, I feel that whatever they go with breath wise (it would appear blue) then the fins should be the same. I do like the red-zilla posted above but that would be too distracting to some and jarring for others.
Here's how I thought the various intensities of beams could be done, with a new wrinkle or 2 thrown in.
You could have a quick blast, just a couple of blinks of the fins and a short stun burst
You could have a moderate blast, which would be similar to what the standard beam we know would emit...a number of more intense flickers of the plates then a more destructive burst (like the waterfront scene in G85) A long swath of fire could be produced.
Then you could have a full blast burst where Godzilla inhales and exhales several times, each with the dorsals building in intensity, the lighting becoming more solid and less flashing till he reaches full power when the plates are lit and not flickering...that could release a destructive blast or kill shot.
Now I think that with the effects we will have access to, they could even add (personal preference here) some electrical charges (like a plasma ball) between the fins, giving an even more impressive power display.
Some do not like the idea of him using his breath at full power could temporarily weaken him but I think it's a grand idea, we try to figure out how to get him to beam himself out, then try and take him down while his regeneration is slower...(silly us, it never works)
My .02 cents

I think Kiryu Godzilla would look great in CGI/motion-capture. The suit was rather stiff, but with Hollywood-level special effects it would look spectacular!

Oddly, the thing that bothered me most about the T-shirt Goji was the teeth. They seemed to sharklike....

Re: Godzilla: The Look
I sure hope the comic con t-shirt of Godzilla is Godzilla himself and not like Zilla 98. I'm hoping these directors will do this right when the movie is out. I just hope fans will go see the movie and see the Godzilla we all know from the movies we have watched over the years since we were kids and not a mutated dinosaur like Zilla who btw is lame. We don't need to upset the japanese again like we did in 98.

On topic... I want to see a Godzilla that keeps the basic design of the japanese one, but I want Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures to be able to give it their own style as well. It needs to have the basic shape, with features that would be more fitting for an American audience... if that makes any sense at all.

I kind of want a little bit of a slant in his posture, but I don't want that 'realistic' thing either. He's a monster after all, no reason for him to be realistic.Tyler wrote:I think he meant the "realistic" Velociraptor stance. I hope they don't do that either. Re: Godzilla: The Look
Toho has some of there people working with Legendary on the project so i doubt it. Also i think it's quite clear what went wrong with the last Godzilla movie, so it's safe to say Legendary won't be making the same mistakes as Tri-Star.Hellblaze wrote:I sure hope the comic con t-shirt of Godzilla is Godzilla himself and not like Zilla 98. There taking a Darker an more Serious approach to Godzilla which are good element's into making a successful American Version. Also it's also obvious there taking Toho's Godzilla design an just adding slight adjustment's to appeal to both Fan's an Non-Fans.
I think this will be the Godzilla film that will bring back his popularity in the United States amongst other places. The only problem i see is ''some'' of the Tight-Ass fan's that will bad-mouth anything that isn't Toho or man in a suit. An Yes we all know those few close-minded people exist, which i find completely ridiculous.

Re: Godzilla: The Look
I think there are similarities of the Godzila before and the Godzilla in the future.
May be they will only add some details to be more scary.
but i can't say something about the story because i have no idea about it
but i'm expecting some twist and more trill on the story of the Godzilla in the future.

Re: Godzilla: The Look
Why does it have to be the god damn United States of America that makes the Godzilla movie now?
Can't they just make it the same style look as the Japanese Godzilla's? Up-straight body, not a Zilla-similar mouth and no spines at the top of his head. That's the Japanese godzilla.
Japan, SAVE GODZILLA!!!
And that is excactly what I'm talking about. But take away the white eyes, otherwise it's going to look like GMK godzilla.

Because Toho both WILL NOT and actually feasibly CAN NOT put the amount of money into the franchise required for it to compete internationally without the aid of an American co-production.

Godzilla Apperance Requirements
I know that there's the Godzilla: The Look thread, but I feel that this should be seperate.
I created a picture of the Godzilla apperance requirements. Notice the US and Japanese flags next to shitty and non shitty. This tells you how America designs Godzilla and how Japan designs Godzilla.

Re: Godzilla Apperance Requirements
"How America Designs Godzilla?" Rly? Regardless of the numerous portrayals of Godzilla in American Pop Culture that are more then accurate, you're taking the one American Movie as record for how America designs Godzilla?
Anyways. Standing atleast Semi-errect, ears, three rows of maple-leaf shaped dorsal fins, bulky and stable looking. Blue Atomic Breath. That's it as far as physical characteristics go.

Re: Godzilla Apperance Requirements
As far as what's required:
- Holds its self at lest semi-erect
- Three rows of pronged dorsal spines/plates
- A look of great mass
- Blue nuclear breathe
EDIT: Charcoal gray skin too. I actually wouldn't mind if they slightly altered his color (a lighter gray or maybe even brown), just as long as he isn't green.

Re: Godzilla: The Look
I'm pretty sure that everyone here is in agreement on the general look. But what about specifics?
Some things that I'd really want to see on Goji are a furrowed brow, the double row of teeth, fangs, and burning orange eyes. I'd also like to see him him a more feral, predatory appearance.
EDIT: Little ears and a mammalian/feline lip too.
