Godzilla: The Look/Appearance Speculation

For the discussion of the upcoming Godzilla film by Legendary Pictures.

To be a bit off topic, I have heard that Godzilla will fight another monster in the film. What should the monster look like?

Here are two possibilities I thought of:

1. I've heard on another thread that Godzilla may or may not fight King Ghidorah. Personally I would like to see something a LOT like the original. KG does NOT to be more dinosaur like or anything, mostly because he is NOT a dinosaur, but a space hydra. Based on this I could see a design similar to Grand Ghidorah used, albeit a bit more "spacey" or scary, maybe throwing in Kaiser Ghidorah's darker hues and textures, as well as the red eyes.

2. If we are getting an original kaiju, I would like to see a giant insect queen ala Legion or Megaguirus. I could see the Queen starting out as a massive armored larvae like Battra or Mothra, become a giant spiky cocoon , and then become a massive flying imago form. I would imagine the imago form to have a tail stinger like Megaguirus that fires darts like GMK Mothra, Mantis or scorpion like spiny legs, and maybe the ability to fire acid from its forehead like a termite.

Moving on, I imagine a Godzilla design that basically takes the Japanese design and slims it down while making it a bit more dinosaur like. Remember how Stan Winston made a more modern-but-true-to-the-original design that looked a lot like the 90's design? Well, I would like to see the same thing done with the Millennium designs, namely the GFW and Godzilla vs. Megaguirus designs.

Why do I get the feeling that they are going to do a "Godzilla: Series" fars the monsters?

I just hope the look turns out to be a 90's mix with a newer style.

I want him to fight something that flys but still has a humanoid shape so they can grapple and beat the crap out of each other.

ManBat would be pleased with this post.

Well, not super humanoid like that. Similar to Godzilla's body structure. I don't want it to be like Megaguirus where the fights are limited.

There's something about Japanese art that's so incredibly appealing even when they do tweak Godzilla's design. They get the essence of the monster so well that alternations don't really make him stop looking like Godzilla.

Godzilla should be around 50-100 meters tall, have spines on his back, a reptilian hide, stand on two feet, and have teeth.

I would definitely vote for this design. It'd be nice to have the 80's/90's designs back. I'm not too much of a fan of the Millennium designs, I'm a guy that still lives in the past :)

I live in the past too, but I'm not really a fan of the heisei design. Sure, it looks good on paper (then again, what doesn't?) but in terms of execution, there's not really a whole lot it can do aside from flail it's arms and beam spam. And that's one of the drawbacks of the Heisei series itself. And not to mention all the GD love it gets is making me sick of it. Seriously, the design is stale to me now.

Personally, I'd like a mix of the '62 & '64A design with the millenium design.

And for the love of G, it better have pupils.

On the subject of stance, I found some interesting kits which serve as interesting examples.

Here we have Godzilla in a horizontal, roaring pose.

A hunched over pose for an original design.

These I just thought were some interesting designs:

This one I thought had an almost dragon-like appearance.

I love most of them. However, there will be those that dislike the whole design for Godzilla 2000 that will not be thrilled with those.

I really like various different things about each of those kits. The teeth are a bit gruesome for my tastes. I prefer the double-rowed Heisei look in that department. I like the idea of a Godzilla who is vertical, but a bit more hunched over, also able to go a bit more horizontal when fighting. I feel like the filmmakers were going for that in Godzilla vs. King Kong and Godzilla vs. Mothra (64), for instance, but couldn't pull it off with the limitations of the day.

I think I'm fine with the T-Shirt design. Just make the head bit bigger then you got a awesome design.

Agreed but id still like to see it in a CGI or suit form(Like hell this is happening), where it wont be like "It sounded better on paper than on film".

I like certain design features of GMK Godzilla & Always2 Godzilla. I hope LP doesn't go too crazy with the spikes, like we see with the G2000 design.

How do you mean? You want the creators who are doing work for an American picture to NOT use their own resources and NOT make a suit in their own home country? :eh:
