Godzilla: The Look/Appearance Speculation

For the discussion of the upcoming Godzilla film by Legendary Pictures.

SuperSaiyan4Godzilla and TokyoVigilante, I would like to gain an opinion upon something. (Other users here can feel free to jump in if you want).

Now, based on giving a Godzilla some realistic aspects (Like webbed fingers and possibly toes, or a crocodile-like tail etc.), if wanting to do something about the atomic breath, at least the biological aspect of it (Like how its produced and its form), how would you go about it?

A few friends of mine are at a bit of a stalemate with each other. Half of them believes that the biological upbringing of how Godzilla produces his atomic breath should be more based upon a structure similar of the Prehistoric Dragons presented in Animal Planet's Dragons A Fantasy Made Real.
Image

While the actual Atomic Breath itself has a structured appearance more similar to Belloc's fire breath in Firebreather, but give the breath more of a showcasing of impact.
Image

That's one half.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The other half think that Godzilla should biologically produce his weapon more similar to the Heisei Godzilla, but while having the weapon baring the structure of GMK's Godzilla's Atomic Ray.

But how would you go about it?

Please don't try and make Godzilla more "realistic", and I use that term loosely, because the last time they tried that we got GINO.

The only "realistic" thing I'd want is some explanation for his powers like how in one of the books they find he has an organ attached to both of his lungs and heart and they think when he feels threatened the heart pumps nuclear energy into this organ which pumps it into his lungs and bam! Atomic Breath. And even then I'd only want them to go over one or two of his powers/biology feats because while learning something new about Godzilla and the other monsters is cool it's also nice to still have some mystery about them and not know everything about them.

I would be happy if they didn't explain how his breath works.

Scientists: OMFG we figued out exactly how this guy works!!!

Godzilla: *Breathes atomic flames of death!!!*

Scientists: O.O

I've come up with a varied amounts of hypotheses on this subject over the last couple of years. This is not the place to discuss it, though.

Toho's explained it a few ways that works more-or-less in a reasonable fashion, though.

I'm not targeting you LC, I'm targeting the people that say this in general:

I don't give a shit what you think. If I wanted to make Godzilla realistic, I'd have him look like Matt Frank's Godzilla NEO NEO and give him the ability to spit a burning liquid like the bombardier beetle.

Whenever I make Godzilla "realistic" (I hate how you guys apply the word), I start with what he has and find the best approximation in science. And hell, the science I come up with is basically what Toho has said before. Give or take some of the crazy organs floating around.

I don't want them to know everything about him just unclover something cool once in a while like how in Godzilla 2000 they discovered his healing factor or how in the old Gamera films they discovered Gyaos has two neck bones that act as a sort of tuning fork and that's how he makes Sonic Cutter Beams. There still a ton of other things about both monsters that neither discovery explains like how does Godzilla feed off of radiation instead of just dieing or getting cancer.

Morbidly Obese Godzilla....I don't like it.....

Neither do I. That image has been brought up before, and I'm pretty sure everyone agreed it was bad.

Patrick Alan wrote:I'm pretty sure with all that weight, Godzilla couldn't stand up!

To be fair, keep in mind Godzilla has always - always - weighed 20,000 to 30,000 tons (which is insane). The difference here is that he actually LOOKS like he weighs that much.

I do enjoy the effort put into the art and enjoy silly ways people reimagine the kaiju, but I don't understand how that Godzilla couldn't even move. You should see his Gigan and Megalon. Really messed up.

I'm not nearly informed enough on the science of radioactivity to say for sure.

*Uran, is short for "Uranium".

That's the simplest diagram I've seen that shows how Godzilla does the breath thing. Also, only one in english.

As for what it looks like, that's more of an artistic decision. I'm personally partial to the '62 breath, '84 breath, and the GMK one. The '84 is probably the most realistic, being just this spray of super heated and radioactive gases that he sweeps around, but the GMK one is alot more cinematic to watch (and I love how deliciously toxic and unhealthy it sounds). The '62 breath is a nice mid-ground between those two.

I'm sure those images have all been shown around here, but these are jus my opinions

Apparently, Legendary liked that Godzilla model, and used it somewhat to influcence the design in film.

I believe they hired the guy who worked on the models posted above to either over-look or sculpt the new design for Godzilla, not really sure which an don't quote me but i do remember seeing articles on bloody-disgusting an comicbookmovie as well as other websites. So Godzilla's design may not stray to far from those images, which is fine by me because i do love both.

I remember seeing those on DeviantART. The dude made them when he was in High School. He could very well be working with LP, if so good for him. But I doubt these are any indications of the final outcome.
