1) Kumonga (AKA: Aspiga)

2) Kamacuras (AKA: Gimantis); for this I would go with a Gamera; Gaurdian of the Universe situation with Godzilla having to contend with several of the pests with each next one that much more difficult until it come down to the fight between Godzilla and the final Kamacuras.

3) Ebirah; but a sufficient amount of suping up would be needed. I never considered a giant lobster too much a difficult challenge for Godzilla.

4) Baragon (Of course he would have to be suped up as opposed to previous films; face it, G.M.A.O.K was a beat down).

5) Varan; I recommend him because other than his original appearance back in 58' he really hasn't had any film time, and I believe that this monster had alot of potential.

6) Manda; like Baragon, this monster has adversary potential but would need to be suped up.

I have to disagree. I don't see why everyone wants Baragon or Varan or Kamacuras as Godzilla's enemy monster. I mean, I understand the mentality behind not wanting KG, but tossing out Godzilla's weakest adversaries 'cos its the first film is abit silly. If you want a gradual upturn in power level of Godzilla's opponents, there's still a huge number of choice besides Baragon or Varan (ie; Movie 1: Gigan, Movie 2: Mechagodzilla, and then King Ghidorah). And if they are going to be suped up, why not just choose an enemy that is already reasonably powerful?

And this may also be Godzilla's last movie ever if it doesn;t do very well. I surely wouldn't want to see him fight Baragon or Varan in his potential finale. There are alot of dangerous adversaries Godzilla can battle without using KG or MG- Gigan, Hedorah, Megalon, Megaguirus, and on the 'natural' side of things, Titanosaurus, Anguirus, Rodan and as you mentioned, Kumonga.

Personally, I want Anguirus.

There is a kind of historical precedent that would be cool in the overview of the series. E.G., Godzilla's first opponent in his second film was Angy. In his second AMERICAN film, Angy is his first antagonist.

Even if this movie bombs, it wont be Godzilla's last.. Toho ''might'' make a short 60th anniversary film for fan's, if not then they'll keep Godzilla retired for another 5 to 10 years an try again to see where the franchise stands.

MechaGodzilla's had more than enough screentime for a while. Not to mention if this is a true reboot he has no reason to exist: the GDF/JSDF/EDF/GF/whateverthefucktheyrecalledthistimearound wouldn't build a robot based on a monster they've never seen before. And aliens wouldn't build a monster looking like one, again, nobody has seen. MechaGodzilla would need too be created by something. He's not organic. And I doubt they'll turn too aliens right away: aliens continue to be associated with camp in Godzilla films, and I think they'll avoid that route at first.

King Ghidorah is a poor but likely choice for the first film because while he is an arch-nemesis a major part of his significance, I feel, is he's the "most powerful" enemy Godzilla faces (not in a literal sense, but as far as the characters themselves are generally concerned) - his origin also would be tough to do while covering Godzillas. Not to mention, fresh after watching his original movie, I feel part of the magic of the character is he needs a monster team-up.

My expectations:

Anguirus: Godzilla's earliest film opponent, fan favorite ally and missing-in-action for almost forty years, Anguirus is a fine choice. He's fairly well-rounded fighting-wise, and his origins aren't complex and he can easily show up alongside Godzilla. He's also a flexible character who can play a role beyond antagonist and be given some actual characterization. Not to mention he's already an eye-catching monster with his spiked carapace, so an update to his design wouldn't need to be drastic.

Rodan: One of Toho's most famous monster creations, Rodan is a fine adversary for Godzilla as well - like Anguirus he has a simple origin, he's well-rounded, and he has a beam weapon as well as well-known T&C skills. His flying ability adds a sort of amphibious advantage in the same way Godzilla can move on land and water, unlike Anguirus. But Legendary may choose to save Rodan for his own film in the event of Godzilla's success and avoid him. In addition, a Rodan re-design would likely to take more elements from what we now know about pterosaurs, which could result in a radically different Rodan.

Hedorah or Deathla: Considering Yoshimitsu Banno's on the project, I'm all but positive they have been or will be considered, even if they ultimately go unused. Hedorah is a fan favorite, and his popularity in Japan has risen in recent years. His debut film is also popular with fans. But more importantly, Hedorah represents a message few of Godzilla's enemies convey, regarding pollution and the environment. If the film does intend to deliver a message among the monsters, I think Hedorah may be chosen to convey such a point.

Megalon: Love it or hate it, Megalon's film is the most famous one in the states. Megalon's not a complex character and again, his design doesn't need much changing to spark out with the audience. If the nuclear message returns, the Seatopians, with an overhaul, could be an interesting way to convey that message again - and in addition, the film's "defender of the Earth" message is more in line with the '70s films than newer ones.

It'd be great to see all three monsters together, but that was more about my expectations than my own thoughts. My guess is Godzilla will either be against one traditional enemy i.e. Anguirus, Rodan, etc. or will have a powerful Heisei or latter Showa esque one and a more traditional one as fodder or an ally, though the "defender of the Earth" one leans me towards the latter.

If they do for the latter, I hope they go for a GTTHM angle, rather than giving Godzilla a team from the start.t

I know it was Rodan's to start off with but it just feels more natural with Anguirus. The way they made his roar sound in the game, was like hurricane winds. He was one of my favourite playable characters because of it. I liked the free range parts in Save the earth. I'd walk off and sonic blast attack helicopters out of the sky. Watch them spin down to the ground on fire or explode in the air.

Now, I would say that I could really care less about Rodan having a fancy projectile, but Anguirus I wouldn't mind the roar... As long as it is more G:U styled. But make it invsible, or in the form of weird shockwaves or something.
