Importance of this movie to you?

Postby gatorzilla » Thu Jul 26, 2012 2:41 pm

As die hard Godzilla fans like myself how important is this new American Godzilla movie to you? What are you most excited about it?

For me it is probably one of the most important things in a long time. It gives me the chance to see my life long hero in a big budget special effects American movie on the big screen done CORRECTLY. It gives Godzilla the chance to become very popular here in America again like he was in the 90s if not close to it or even bigger. It allows the Godzilla franchise to continue on and expand and grow. It has potential to create a brand new American Godzilla franchise that can compete with other big high grossing fan base franchises like Transformers, Batman, Jurassic Park, Marvel etc. It has the chance to give new respectability toward the franchise and bring in new fans and allow this generation to grow up like we did in the 90s. It gives us possibly a whole bunch of new merchandise in stores. The most important thing is it keeps our beloved franchise going.

Funny thing was I am a big Batman fan too but once that news about Godzilla came out my excitement for TDKR cooled down completely! Which is wild because i was so excited for that movie for so long but that news at Comic Con about Godzilla just blew everything else away.

So how important is this film to you guys? What are you most excited about with it?

The first time seeing an American Godzilla film that'll (hopefully) capture the spirit of what made Godzilla the King of The Monsters

This being the Batman Begins for the whole franchise or
this ending up being a really good entertaining movie.
regardless of what some critics say about it.

An american-made Godzilla movie that has the real thing, not some mutant iguana that has flammable burps.

All I want is an apple when I pay for an apple and an orange for when I pay for an orange. Same thing with this film, when I pay to see a Godzilla film I want to see a Godzilla film.

Pretty much. My main demand is that it's true to the character.

Beyond that, I hope it's a good film, has a monster to fight Godzilla, and helps rejuvenate the franchise and genre both here and in Japan, bringing with it more films and lots of great merchandise. That may sound optimistic, but remember I said that's what I hope for, not necessarily what I'm confident will actually happen.

I want this film to change people's views on Godzilla and make him popular again. It's a pretty big wish, but i'm hoping for the best. That, and it's my first Godzilla film on the big screen.

This movie is quite significant to me, possibly being the most significant Hollywood production in my lifetime (GINO having been that until its failure became apparent). For one, it will be a chance to see Godzilla done right by a Hollywood studio with fancy special effects. For two, it could -along with Pacific Rim- lead the way to a resurgence of daikaiju movies.

I know a lot of people are upset or misconstruing Gareth Edwards' remarks about it not being sci-fi, but I am very much looking forward to seeing a grounded take on the character and eliminating the camp. We haven't really had a SERIOUS Godzilla movie since 1954.

This will be my 3rd Godzilla movie on the big screen. I just hope the movie is better than G98 and the millennium series.

This will be my first big screen Godzilla experience! Just to hear and FEEL the roar will be worth it! Hopefully this will do justice to Goji and bring a breath of life and creativity into the franchise.

Well I have been putting $20 a month in my Godzilla jar since 2010. Anticipating spending on all the great merchandise etc. Plan on taking a day off from work going to Lexington watching it 3 times. Stay and watch it again the next day. Should have a $1000 dollars by then to blow.

Tried the same thing in 98. Watched the movie one time and went straight to sporting goods store and bought a $350 rod and reel.
As much as I am wanting that $600 mtn bike 29er from bikes direct I hope I get to spend it on something I've been waiting on nearly 50 years. A truly great American Godzilla film.

That's rather appropriate, given GINO's fondness for seafood.

LOL. I bought some steel leaders, one mile of line and my drag set just right. If I could of got him in I would still have lizard fillets in the freezers.

I just look forward to a good movie of any kind. But since it's Godzilla I'll be immensely thrilled if it's good and immensely bummed if it's not. I think we should at least expect him to look and act right this time. The story is what we should be concerned about.

How can this movie not be important especially for the fans?

Why do most of you put so much emphases on this being an "American" Godzilla film? That doesn't necessarily give the character a higher level of quality. Something that is as universal as Godzilla needs to be treated as that. I also hope that it doesn't feel like an American film because that just strips something away from Godzilla. I'm thinking about what happened with GINO when they decided on "Americanizing" Godzilla and give brief reference to where the creature comes from Japan.

In the film Monsters, Gareth Edwards did something unique in basing the film in Mexico. Although the lead characters were American, Edwards further explored the culture of Mexico without alienating it and making it seem like it was all about the American characters . If the primary location in this film happens to be Japan, I will be very happy with that choice.
